Weston Green School
Last year, I asked you whether you thought in words, pictures or music? So many of us go through a day with songs in our hearts and minds, sometimes even humming them out loud without appreciating that others can hear us! And why not as this is indicative of the importance of music for so many of us and of the love of music which we hold dear.

The House Music Competition rightly took centre stage last week - and what a delight it was!

Storm Doris hits Forest School!
Unfortunately Forest School could not take place last Thursday due to the strong wind caused by storm Doris. The children in Reception spent the morning in their classroom, drawing and writing about what they enjoyed doing at Forest School the most. Drinking hot chocolate and climbing trees were the clear winners!!

Year 1 are guests at the castle
This week Year 1 were guests at our Queen's main residence - Winsor Castle. Sadly we missed the Queen by one day, as she was working at her office Buckingham Palace. However, the children learnt about the different flags which you can see above any castle of palace and how you know if the Queen is in or not.
Take your partners please!
The Reception classes are looking forward to their upcoming trip to Bocketts farm this term.

Children have been learning some basic steps of country dance so that we can put them together and create a Barn Dance of our own.

First ISA Girls Netball Tournament for WGS
Last Friday Weston Green U11 Netball team set off on their first ISA Tournament. The girls had been training hard since the beginning of the year, spending their Monday evenings working together, jelling as a team and mastering their own set positions. They were ready. With the sun shining and a large crowd of WGS parents cheering them on, the girls were excited to get going, opening their campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss.
Weston’s Wondrous World Book Day!
The school excelled themselves this week when celebrating ‘World Book Day’. This year, to tie in with our project theme, the decision was made to give our mufti a Roald Dahl theme.  Looking out before registration, the playground was awash with Matildas, Ooompa Loompas, Miss Honeys, Willy Wonkas, many foxes and we even had a giraffe!
Year 5 enjoy afternoon of science
Year 5 were treated to a workshop by the head of Chemistry and the head of Physics from Epsom College on Wednesday afternoon. First the students were set the task of designing the best and lightest insulation to protect a transmitter that was to be launched by a high altitude balloon. Surprisingly polystyrene balls in a polystyrene cup proved to be the most insulating!
  House Music Competition
On Thursday 23rd February we held our annual House Music Competition. Our guest adjudicator Jeanette Marr (Director of Music – Danes Hill) presented such wonderful and positive feedback to 8 instrumentalists and vocalists as they performed a solo piece. These children had been selected to go forward from a first round audition.
