Mr Harrison's blog

Research by the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at Durham University has found that attending an Independent School in England gives pupils benefits equivalent to two additional years in education. Whilst this is ground-breaking research, the conclusions of the research are no surprise to those of us who have been in independent education for some time: we know how purposeful the environment, how strong the ethos, how diverse the pupils’ daily educational diet and how focused and energy-filled each day, week and term; that rich combination was always going to deliver results which proved the high ‘value-added’.

Making new friends in Kindergarten

Last week Kindergarten welcomed ten new friends into their class who will be joining Weston Green School in Reception next September.

The new children were very brave and joined in with the morning activities. Some even got involved in sports day practice, running races with Mr. Dowson.

We look forward to seeing them again in the autumn.

Reception share their work on beaches and seas

As part of their ‘Beaches and Seas’ topic, Reception have been looking at marine life, living in rock pools. They designed their own rock pools with sea creatures and labelled their work. The children also had an opportunity to build their own rock pools using sand, pebbles, shells, seaweed and toy sea creatures. View some examples of their work.

Lady with lamp visits Year 2

In our History this term, Year 2 have been studying the life of Florence Nightingale as part of their famous people and events topic. The Freshwater Theatre Company re-enacted the life and times of Florence Nightingale.

Cricket

Over the course of the term, Key Stage 2 has been developing its cricket skills. It has been fantastic to see all the children take an interest in the sport as it can teach them so much more than just being fit. Cricket is about concentration, team work, and always searching to improve.

  Street party lunch

The bunting was strung out, patriotic tunes played, the children dressed up on the theme of Royalty and Commonwealth and the Food Committee helped Matt and Stefan in the kitchen make 20 loaves of bread into delicious sandwiches. All was set for a wonderful street party lunch in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
