  Mr Harrison's blog
Welcome back to another term! We have some new faces amongst us and I hope they already feel very much at home with us.

The New Year always brings with it fresh aspiration, hope and challenge. For the Y6 pupils, this is the time they have been working towards for a good while now: it is the month for entrance exams to the various schools to which they have applied. They have (been) prepared exceptionally well, they have worked very hard consistently well over the last 6 months or so and we wish them well as they go to each exam and, of course, success. We await news.

Reception meets the Year 6 House Captains
Reception have been working hard to earn house points....but what are house points earned for and why are they important?

We thought this was most effectively answered by the Weston Green House captains themselves and so last week Reception children had their first House meeting with peers and captains.
A new challenge
Starting something new is always exciting and last term saw the first ever edition of The Weston Times by Weston Green School Able, Gifted and Talented group. Children from years 1-6 have been working hard each week to write reports, take pictures and gather information about topics of interest to them.

New arrivals in Kindy
Last week we welcomed some new children into Kindergarten. Some of these children were rising threes. Despite being very little, they have integrated very well and have enjoyed participating in many of the activities we offer. They have had their first taste of French, Music and Games with Mr. Dowson, which went down especially well, and they have managed admirably the complexities of remembering which coat to wear when! They are also enjoying their first experience of school lunches in the hall.
WGS Endeavour Awards
It is always wonderful to hear of and celebrate the many achievements of the children at Weston Green. In addition to all the wonderful things that they do in school, we know that many independently take part in a host of external activities that help to further their personal development. What is particularly impressive is that the children are responsible for making their own progress and we we would like to recognise and celebrate this.

Year 5 write like Romans
In Latin year 5 have been learning about the Vindolanda tablets, which were found during excavations of the Vindolanda site in 1973. These amazing writing tablets had been preserved for hundreds of years in peat, around what had been the commanding officer's residence of this important Roman fort.

  Miss Carter’s Forest School Update
We are really looking forward to introducing pilot Forest School sessions at Weston Green for Kindergarten children.  The sessions are due to start after half term and will take place every Thursday afternoon.

I am currently undertaking a level three qualification as a Forest School Leader. I am now half way through the course and enjoying it immensely.  The Forest School philosophy is a unique and valuable way of teaching children in a woodland environment.
