  Mr Harrison's blog

We are in the business of education for life. This means we are concerned not only about ensuring all is well in the present but also in the future, as much as is possible; it is always a complete delight to meet old WGS pupils (and I have now had the privilege of meeting a few in their 20s) who reflect on their time at the school and acknowledge how well they were cared for then and what an impact this has had on their life since. In a world which is fast-changing, how do we continue to deliver that forward-thinking experience - meeting the needs of the children now and with an eye on what is to come? Two recent initiatives might seek to illustrate this: the Gifted, Able and Talented Group and the new building.

Mr Harrison, Headteacher

As part of their Dinosaurs topic, Reception have been learning about the different types of dinosaurs, how they moved and what they ate. The children drew their own dinosaur and labelled the parts of the body and also enjoyed using the 2Paint-a-Picture program in ICT, to create dinosaur drawings.

Volcanic Activity in
Year 1

The British Isles topic is always one that engages our year 1 children, especially when we learn about the extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat. This leads us to look at how volcanoes are formed, why they erupt and what the different parts of a volcano are. This week the children had the chance to make their own volcanoes and erupt them during their ‘Live Volcano Show’. With year 4 eagerly awaiting the eruption, the children headed outside to create the ‘Ring of Fire’. Have a look at the videos to see their excited faces!

Who is your hero?

This week selected children from years 2-6 had the chance to visit Wembley Stadium. This exciting opportunity offered the children the chance to both experience and tour the iconic ground and learn about ‘Wembley Legends’. The children started their day by exploring behind the scenes of the stadium, admiring trophies, visiting dressing rooms and walking down the tunnel to the famous pitch. While the children thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the history of the stadium, they were also encouraged to look at the different ‘Wembley Legends’ that feature heavily throughout the decor.

Years 3 and 4 match report

Last Friday Years 3 and 4 were able to show their hockey skills against two all boy teams from Shrewsbury House. Whilst the training the children had been doing showed in their improvement, the matches were always going to be tough. Although none of the Weston Green teams were able to force a positive result the children should be encouraged by several factors: our positional accuracy was better than the opposition which will be important as the children grow through the school and the girls in particular did not seem too fazed by playing boys, indeed some relished the challenge.
