Welcome to the Junkyard Social Club and the future of Maker Bolder. You may remember us as The Hopper, the crew that plummeted thousands of eggs from rafters at STEAMfest...all in the name of science. We’re excited to introduce you to our new concept. We are launching a brand-new STEAM-focused community space: part Maker Museum, part Adventure Playground, and part Coffee House and Bar...coming to Boulder ASACA (As Soon As COVID Allows), hopefully late this upcoming Spring! We will carry forward Maker Bolder’s legacy of great programming and events from this revolutionary new homebase, made for makers like you. Until then, we have several camps and activities to help you get through these strange times, as well as some updates on our future space - check them out below!

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE DAYS 

Get your kids out of the house and into the wild this holiday season! We are hosting 4-hour, covid-cautious, outdoor adventures facilitated by our master provocateurs of play. Our intrepid explorers will navigate, discover, and build fun memories in Boulder’s natural spaces. Sign up for a day, or a whole week!

IN-HOME ESCAPE PUZZLES

Vanquish the monotony of your Safer-at-home schedule with our in-home puzzle experiences! It’s like an escape room in a briefcase. Each challenge engages the entire family as you unlock the clues to solve a mystery. (All materials are sterilized & can be picked up and dropped off in Boulder County.)

WE'VE BEEN BUSY BEES!

The Junkyard Social Club continues to coalesce. Artists are creating play features and welding patio umbrellas. Indoors, we are rigging some new lighting and layering on a fresh coat of paint. We’re starting to conceptualize a mural for the building’s west wall, all the while we are collecting a treasure trove of unique junk: vintage car parts, license plates, a mountain of tires, giant cable spools, an airplane, a boat, and a bus! We’re also developing programming at our experimental education pod of adventurous Junkyard Juniors. (There are still spots open in our pod if you’re looking for a remote school day solution!)

 ROBOT RAFFE JUMPING TO THE JUNKYARD

A life-size, metal giraffe by Mitch Hoffman, composed of more than 2,000 bits of scrap steel and industrial junk, will be installed to greet guests at the Junkyard’s entrance. She’ll be the perfect compliment to our upcycle aesthetic, but we’re still working on a name for her...any suggestions?

 VW BUG UMBRELLA UPRISING

After scouring literal junk & salvage yards, Jackson Ellis and Mike Hulling collected enough vintage VW bug hoods to assemble two 10-foot-diameter umbrellas. Next summer, you’ll be able to grab a seat in the shade under one of these beauties

CUBICLE IN THE COURTYARD

Piper Merriam and our team of dedicated volunteers have been spending their Sundays sanding, staining, and assembling the cubic components of our multi-pathway scaffolding for creative play.
