As a subscriber to the Deep Adaptation Quarterly, I want to ask you to sign a public letter. It has been prepared by a group of scientists and scholars to coincide with the 5th Anniversary of the Paris Agreement on climate.

Given the lack of action in line with that soft agreement, not only do we support bolder action on mitigation and drawdown, but also preparations for societal disruption and even collapse. The public letter is intended to invite more scholars and policy makers to engage with this difficult issue.

Our aim is that many scholars will sign it from a variety of disciplines, including climatology, food security, psychology, politics, and philosophy.

If you have a PhD, if you sign the letter you will receive an email that updates you on any coverage and discussion that it sparks in media and social media.

The deadline for your support to appear in the first publication of the letter is Saturday December 5th 2020.

To sign the letter, in your personal capacity, you will need to fill in your information and then confirm your email via this link: http://eepurl.com/hiWqd1

That link includes the letter. A referenced version of the letter is also available here

If you support the initiative but do not have a PhD, but know someone likely to support it who does, then please forward them this email. We recommend you don't share the email on mailing lists yet, until it is first published.

As this invitation is going to a lot of academics in a short period of time, I must apologise for not being able to respond to individual enquiries. Within the form for signing the letter, you can provide any caveats you have about it's content, which will be shared at the bottom of the referenced version of the letter when it is published.

Thanks,
Professor Jem Bendell
