I have discovered a preconceived notion and it creates a creative block when considering a website.

  • Getting a professional website is a big production number.
  • Lot's of time and money involved.
  • You will lose control and end up with something not right.
  • You get scared and DIY. At least it's cheap and you can control your time, money, and message. But then you learn what technology is all about, and why nerds are nerds.
Agencies and large design firms have structures in place when they make a website. I think this is where it comes from, the fear... the apprehension. They have a very structured process and timeline that they put you through to build your website.

DIY if you like, but sometimes it's nice to have a little help.
I have a system that allows me to be in the admin in order to help my clients. I work in my system on client's sites all day long. I keep the system updated and working.
Websites are tricky things. Unless maintained properly they get old, they break down, they can easily look and feel abandoned from not being updated.
There are ways around this and I've found some.
The B&B Theme is a good example.
Posts added to the site can be directed to show up on the home page. Roll over the pictures and the title and blurb appears over a number of colorful backgrounds. Add to that a way to schedule and expire posts, and you got a site that looks alive... like somebody's home.
