Choice Neighborhoods Website   Check out our new website at choicenewbern.com.  It’s loaded with information, maps, and illustrations to answer all of your questions about the CNI planning process.  Just need a quick update on a future meeting or want to see photos from a recent event?  Take a look at our Facebook page, where you’ll find lots to “like” about this exciting initiative.

Welcome Tharesa Lee   Tharesa Lee, former City of New Bern Nonprofit Coordinator and Executive Director of the Neuse River CDC, has joined the CNI planning team as the People Planning Lead, responsible for integrating community-building and resident self-sufficiency into the neighborhood revitalization process.  She brings a wealth of leadership experience in the housing and non-profit sectors from her extensive work in the community, including positions as President of the NC Statewide Housing Coalition and chair of the Chamber of Commerce Minority Business and Non-profit councils.

Lead Planning Coordinator on Board   The firm of EJP Consulting Group was recently retained as CNI Lead Planning Coordinator to help guide New Bern through the complex CNI planning process.  Gayle Epp and her highly talented crew have extensive experience in Choice Neighborhoods planning and other HUD financing programs, with clients throughout the country, including communities that have successfully competed for CNI Implementation Grants.

Data-Gathering Effort   The early part of CNI planning required by HUD involves an extensive baseline data collection effort, including demographics, mapping, and information such as availability of services, housing and economic market analyses, and education and healthcare data.  An extensive resident needs assessment is also being conducted.  Surveying is ongoing at Trent Court and will begin soon in Craven Terrace and across the grant neighborhood.  The data gathered in this effort will be used in future community meetings to help guide the community’s goals and desires for neighborhood revitalization and meet residents’ needs for supportive services.
