Its that time again, time to gear up for our annual Oregon Garden Earth Day poster contest! For the past 16 years, kids have been celebrating and learning about the earth with us through their art contributions. We would like to invite your students to participate in this year's contest to help promote Earth Day 2016.

Our theme this year is "Clean water, clear skies." Please see attached for a description of what this theme entails to help you begin the conversation with your class.

The poster contest is open to students in all K-12 programs. The Earth Day Committee will choose one Grand Prize winner for the official 2016 Earth Day posters, advertisements, and website that will be used to promote our event. We will display all winning and honorable mention poster entries at the event as well as award a First Place Prize to one student in each of these categories: grades K-3; grades 4-7; grades 8-12. The teacher of the student who wins the Grand Prize will receive a $100 gift card for classroom use. All poster entries must be postmarked by Friday, Jan. 31, 2016 .

2016 Art Calendar Contest

Fourteen students from Marion County were honored at the county Board of Commissioners meeting in December for their artwork.

In an effort to promote waste reduction and resource conservation in local schools, Marion County Public Works' Environmental Services and Mid-Valley Garbage & Recycling Association teamed up to create this year's Student Recycle Art Calendar contest, according to a recent press release.

Beginning in April, students throughout the county submitted illustrations that addressed this year's theme, "Save the Food." Students were encouraged to think of ways in which they could help prevent food waste. In addition to having their art featured in the calendar, students with winning entries received certificates presented to them by the board of commissioners.
