Join us for a stroll to see the incredible Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights!

Join PUCers in some very merry holiday cheer on Sunday, December 18th when we stroll to see the Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights! Everyone is invited to meet at Trish Botsko’s and Mike Bechtol’s home, 22338 Shadycroft Ave., Torrance, at 5:30pm. Come have a drink or two, play instruments or sing. Our hosts will supply eggnog and hot chocolate and will have the fireplace going.  After a while, we’ll all walk down to the Sleepy Hollow Christmas lights neighborhood to see the incredible decorations. When we’re done, it’s back to Trish and Mike’s house. Those who want to can call it an evening, those who want to can stay and visit some more. There will be a bit of walking and it’s a little bit hilly, but those who are not as ambulatory have the option of driving through the neighborhood. You are welcome to bring your instruments, voices, sheet music and any food or drink you’d like to share. Join us for this festive holiday evening!

Mindfulness and Meditation:
Tools for Change, Techniques for Coping

Sunday 18 December, 2016
12:15 - 1:15 pm (after lunch)
in the Library or Hall.
All are welcome.

Despite all the celebration, the holiday season can be a difficult time for many. We may find ourselves sad and lonely, even surrounded by family and friends. This year in particular we may find ourselves depressed and anxious about the future. What to do?

Through developing love, compassion, joy, and equanimity we can rediscover purpose and meaning in life. Becoming more present, aware, and awake, we can rediscover the richness and beauty of life, and find ourselves of help, kindness and cheer to others.

Wouldn’t this be a nice gift to give yourself and your loved ones? Join us for this introduction.

Regular Tuesday evening Buddhist meditation group practice is 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the Library.

Dan Dempster has been authorized by Khenpo Migmar Tseten, Buddhist Chaplain at Harvard University. He is a member of PUC and leads 7:30-9:00 Tuesday evening Buddhist meditation practice in the library.

Please RSVP so that we may determine numbers.

Playing in the Sage…

“The problem is not that Santa stops existing but that we do. The children we are no longer exist, a fact we do not help through immersing ourselves in the repeating cycle of wake, work, dinner, Internet, sleep.”
---Thomm Quackenbush, A Creature Was Stirring

Breakfast with Santa was a wonderful way start to the holiday season for children of all sizes!
No matter what your age, the thought of meeting Santa Claus will send a shiver of anticipation and excitement through you. He is a man of myth and magic. I believe in a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the ghost of Christmas present is our Santa Claus. He reminds us to be in the moment. “Yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift that’s why they call it the present” (Master Oogway – KungFu Panda)
It’s a time to be merry and bright. Let the child inside out to play!

Hey, Party People!

Do you love to plan parties but don’t have enough opportunities? We are looking for you!  Our PUC community loves to get together at various events at church and it would be great to have a team of folks who like to work from time to time on special events. This is the kind of job for those of you who don’t want to attend monthly committee meetings!  The next big, fun event will be the kick-off to the Pledge Drive which also falls on our 60th anniversary, March 17th.

Contact Judy Shaffer for details.

Artistic/Tech Savvy Person Wanted

PUC's 60th Birthday Celebration is coming in March, and we're looking for someone to put together a visual history of those sixty years to present at the Annual Dinner/Birthday Celebration. Lots of photos from very nearly our beginnings up to the present are available in year-labeled albums and boxes, many with names of those pictured on the back. Please call the Church Office or Betty Paieda (phone number and e-mail address in the PUC Directory) if you're interested. Betty, one of our Church Historians, will work with you to assemble a DVD.
Dear Campers and Camp Supporters
In this harried world and at this crazy time, Camp de Benneville calls.

It is the place where you can nourish, heal, and strengthen your spirit. You experience joy, love, and beloved community there. And nature brings awe and comfort as you immerse yourself in the wilderness.
You love it. Camp needs your support.
And if you'll do it in the next four weeks, you'll double your impact.
We have received a challenge from anonymous donors who are asking you to join with them to support Camp de Benneville Pines. If you can pitch in and help us raise $50,000, your dollars will be matched!
$50 becomes $100. $500 becomes $1,000, and $5,000 becomes $10,000!
With your help we will replace roofs, work on the decks, and continue to improve the lodge. And together, we'll make camp more accessible so everyone can come regardless of their ability to pay.
Thanks to our anonymous donors for their amazing generosity, and thank you for helping make de Benneville Pines a beloved destination for beloved community.
Wishing you well this holiday season,
Janet James
