Santa Cruz New Tech MeetUp merges with Santa Cruz Works
The Santa Cruz New Tech MeetUp has merged with Santa Cruz Works and both will be known as Santa Cruz Works moving forward.

“The joining of forces of Santa Cruz Works and Santa Cruz New Tech is a powerful engine for success,” said Peggy Dolgenos, president of Cruzio Internet, in a press release. “The combined entity recognizes that Santa Cruz has a unique place in the international tech scene: we’re highly innovative, but in a community-oriented way.” Read the whole story here

Community of Makers: a Q&A with Idea Fab Labs

A “member-driven creation zone,” Idea Fab Labs is a community and makerspace in the Wrigley Building. With locations in Santa Cruz and Chico, the company, led by co-founders Jordan Layman and Erin Banwell, offers access to high tech tools, design software, classes and workshops, a resident artist program and more.

We spoke with Layman about the inspiration for Idea Fab Labs, what large-scale art actually is, their growing community of makers, and the company’s plans for the future. Read the interview here

Satellite Deskworks founder and CEO Barbara Sprenger was recently awarded a patent for her proprietary coworking software.
In the works since 2014, the patent is for the Satellite Deskworks comprehensive system, which includes monitoring and assessing usage for users from various means, comparing to what’s included in their plans, and auto-billing according to those plans.
“I’m so excited to have been awarded this patent,” says Sprenger, who explains that the patent is for the “tying together and automating of all the pieces of running your coworking center.” Read the rest of the story here
