Pushing the Environmental Agenda

Many moons back Devonport’s Local Authority was the first to establish a free library, open all its meetings to the public, establish a comprehensive recycling programme and to declare itself nuclear free. We have a history of social innovation.

Given our stunning natural environment, it's quite easy to see how we care passionately about environmental outcomes in our patch of paradise, so it will come as no surprise that we're going boots in all with this month's PARK(ing) Day, an international event that sees businesses and community groups commandeer carparks to be redesigned as interactive public spaces on Friday Sept 20th.

In October we're once again hosting GLOW@Artweek which is our major annual event that sees the design and installation of light pavilions by Unitec's architecture students on Windsor Reserve. Each group is given a zero-waste, zero budget brief, and Vector will be lighting them up using their latest in renewable technology.

Come Play in our Micro-Parks!

Friday Sept 20th, between 10-6pm, Devonport's car parks will be transformed into micro-parks as part of International PARK(ing) Day. Included will be a skip-bin half pipe for skaters, a kiwi campsite, creative sand box, architectural bike lounge and more.

Grab your bikes, jump on an ATLocal and get down to Devonport to join in the fun.

This event is a part of the NZIA Auckland Festival of Architecture.

Launching Devonport's Heritage Walking Tour Audio

We're excited to launch our heritage walking tour on Saturday October 5th 2pm, as part of Auckland's Heritage Festival. Learn about the history of significant landmarks, the architecture of our unique buildings, and the stories and experiences of the people who have lived and worked in Devonport from years past. Led tour starts at Devonport Ferry Terminal at 2pm followed by launch party at The Vic 3pm.

Friday after 5 & GLOW@Artweek
18 & 19 October

It's back, Devonport's annual knees up kick starting GLOW@Artweek. We're closing Clarence street, bringing in the bands, street games, food trucks and good times. Come rain, hail or shine, there will be nothing stopping us from having seriously creative fun.

On Windsor Reserve will be incredible light pavilions designed and installed by Unitec's School of Architecture students and powered by VECTOR's latest in renewable technology. Get the dates in your diary as these popular events are NOT to be missed.

New in the Village: So French Home

Step inside the Post Office and be transported to Provence. 'So French Home' is filled with scented lavender sachets (great for keeping those pesky moths away), reed diffusers and triple milled soaps, bringing the nostalgic aroma of France. Here you will find traditionally made pots and a huge array of hats and bags, many of them in the traditional French market style. There's plenty of great gift ideas for Dad including skin care, parfum and hats.

Loving our Heritage Buildings

Devonport, known for its quaint Victorian buildings that line the main street, has one particularly unique commercial property that speaks to a totally different era; it’s the beautifully restored art deco Post Office. Eddie and Sharon de Heer purchased the property in 2008 and share with us the ups and downs of owning and loving heritage architecture.
