Survey on Restorative Practices

The EFRJ is currently collaborating on the research project ‘More Humane Approaches to Addressing the Harm of Criminal Behaviour', which includes research on RJ. We kindly ask you to COMPLETE THIS SURVEY by 31 March: it will take you about 20 minutes.

Registrations are now open for the International Criminal Justice SUMMER COURSES 2017 (Barcelona, 4-7 July) organised by the CJPE on issues related to radicalisation, desistance and effective justice systems.

EFRJ Summer School: Trainers & Experts
We recently announced the trainers of the EFRJ Summer School 2017 on RJ in cases of serious crimes (Como, 24-28 July): Kristel Buntinx (Moderator, Belgium) and Vince Mercer (Aim, UK). Participants will also take part in a community conference with the 'group of the encounter', composed by ex-members of the armed struggle and victims of the 1970-1980s Italian terrorist attacks.

Dialogues on RJ in Scotland

Our chair Tim Chapman, contributed to the first of a series of public dialogues on RJ, organised in Scotland between February and October 2017. The aim of these events is to increase awareness and understanding of RJ and create a platform for advancing the use of RJ in Scotland.

Films and lectures on the role of justice
Our Board member Brunilda Pali will take part in the two-day initiative 'Utopia or dystopia? The role of justice in a 'pre-crime' future' (KU Leuven, 19-20 April). Pali will introduce the film ‘12 Angry Men‘ (Sidney Lumet, 1957) with a short presentation entitled ‘Reasonable Doubts or Conviction’ (19 April at 19.30).       
Webinar for restorative facilitators

The webinar 'Social justice in circles: how are circle keepers addressing systems of oppression?' will take place on 22 March. The webinar will explore the ways in which social identities, power, privilege and oppression impact peacemaking circles and RJ. 

Training on restorative juvenile justice
Two of the EFRJ board members, Roberto Moreno and Tim Chapman, will give a training to support the development of RJ with young people in the Basque Country (Oñati, 18 May) using the European RJ model with children and young people. Click here to see the draft programme in English.       
Intensive skills course on restorative practices

Strathclyde University is organising the Intensive Course: Foundation Skills in Restorative Practices (5-9 June) with the chair of the EFRJ Board, Tim Chapman, and other colleagues, Mary Munro and Giuseppe Maglione. 

Conference of the World Mediation Forum
The 9th congress of the World Mediation Forum will take place in Quebec (Canada) on 17-19 May 2017. The topic of this year is 'A Comparative Look at Interpersonal and International Mediation'.   
Conference on RJ in Canada

The Bridge: From Prison to Community (Hamilton, Canada) is hosting a conference on RJ on 1 April, entitled 'Bridge to Restorative Justice: Addressing the challenges to RJ in the greater Hamilton region, to create a compassionate and safer community'.

Inspiring manual on theatre for conflict transformation
      'How to use Forum Theatre for Community Dialogue - A Facilitator's Handbook' (Miramonti, 2017) is a practical handbook for beginner facilitators using Forum Theatre to community dialogue and conflict transformation. The Spanish translation will be available soon.
Inspiring book & TED talk on rape and reconciliation

In 1996, Thordis Elva shared a teenage romance with Tom Stranger, an exchange student from Australia, who raped her after a school party in Reykjavik. In the book 'South of Forgiveness' and a TED talk, Thordis and Tom share their story of reconciliation, after 9 years of silence, 8 years of letters' exchange and a one week face-to-face meetings in South Africa.
