creative:impact

Tune in Tuesday mornings at 7:49 & 9:49 a.m. on WEMU 89.1FM.

Co-hosted by David Fair & Deb Polich
creative:impact features creative people and industry experts who live, have creative practices, jobs and businesses in Washtenaw County. They lead the sector locally, nationally and internationally and are the driving forces making Washtenaw County one of Michigan's strongest and most vibrant arts and creative industry hubs.
June 18 - Art for the Love of Art and Infused with a Social Conscience
Recently, a new arts exhibition was unveiled in Orlando to honor those lost in the tragedy, and Ann Arbor artist John Gutoskey's work is prominently featured. In this week's 'creative:impact,' Gutoskey discusses that work, life as an artist, and the role of social conscience in the creative process. Listen here!
June 25 - The National Council on the Arts & the NEA comes to Southeast Michigan
A national spotlight was shining on the arts and creative organizations in Washtenaw County and Southeast Michigan last week when the National Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) visited. In this "creative:impact” segment, Victoria Hutter, NEA assistant director for public affairs, joins WEMU's David Fair and The Arts Alliance’s Deb Polich to discuss what happened during the visit and how the NEA continues to impact and remains essential to the country. Listen here!

National Endowment for the Arts
Gets Big Welcome
from CultureSource & The Arts Alliance

Ahead of the 197th Meeting of the National Council on the Arts in Detroit on Friday, June 21, representatives from the National Endowment for the Arts, including Acting Chair Mary Anne Carter, made a stop at reception in Ann Arbor on June 19.

Guests from arts and cultural organizations across the area gathered for a special cocktail party before the night's live concert at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival: Top of the Park.

MCACA Minigrant Reviewers for Region 9

Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw counties

Former reviewers report that serving on a panel improved their grant writing and review knowledge and helped them learn about arts and cultural programs in their regions.

Reviewers must value diversity of culture and creativity. Experience in personal creative practice, work or extensive volunteer service at creative, cultural, science, nature or heritage organizations is as critical and perhaps more important than formal academic credentials.

Applications may be found here!

City of Ann Arbor soil testing prompts programming changes at Leslie Science and Nature Center

On Sunday, June 23, Ann Arbor received formal guidance from an industrial toxicologist indicating that the level of heavy metals, specifically arsenic and lead, at the Leslie Science and Nature Center were elevated and could pose a risk if soil were to be ingested. As a result, in an abundance of caution the LSNC has moved all programming offsite until further testing is completed. Temporary fencing has been installed to prevent access to the areas that were tested, which includes the future site of a Nature Playscape, which is on hold until further testing is completed and remediation steps are known. Signage will be installed to inform park users to avoid restricted areas.
