Arts + Creative Industries e-Newsletter         February 19, 2019

Tune in Tuesday mornings at 7:49 & 9:49 a.m.
on WEMU 89.1FM
Co-hosted by The Arts Alliance’s Deb Polich and WEMU’s Morning Edition host David Fair, creative:impact features creative people and industry experts who live, have creative practices and jobs, own creative businesses in Washtenaw County and lead the sector locally, nationally and internationally. They are the driving forces making Washtenaw County one of Michigan's strongest and most vibrant arts and creative industry hubs.
Feb. 12 - Inside the Mind of an Ann Arbor Architect
One of the most ancient art forms of is architecture. Whether in it's in our own backyard or across the world, humans have created buildings of all shapes and sizes. In this week's "creative:impact," WEMU's Patrick Campion and The Arts Alliance CEO Deb Polich talk to Kristen Nyht,  about her work with the Quinn Evans architectural firm in Ann Arbor, her roleas president of the Michigan Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the huge Michigan Central Station project in Detroit. Listen here!
February 19 - The Art of Branding with Ypsilanti's 'DO:BETTER'
What do people say about your business, organization or you when you are out of the room? That is your BRAND. Marketing and advertising will help seal your product but it is branding that will create emotional connection and loyalty. Branding is an art form unto itself. In this week's "creative:impact," WEMU's David Fair and Arts Alliance CEO Deb Polich connect with Danielle Milner, a partner at the Ypsilanti branding studio DO:BETTER which is also hosting the DO(something) unconference on March 28th in Ypsilanti.. Listen here!

The Arts Alliance Medals for Arts, Sciences & Humanities 2019 were presented with the added flair of personalized songs for each medalist performed by U-M SMTD students. Thanks to dessous for hosting the event and all of our sponsors and guests for supporting The Arts Alliance, so we can continue to make a creative impact!

Good Luck, Natalie!

Natalie Hensel, The Arts Alliance and Artrain business manager, has taken on a management role at the University of Michigan Union Ticket Office. She joined us back in 2016 and has been instrumental in all of our operations and special events. Natalie has been a big asset and will be missed around the office, but we are excited for her next adventure!

A Fond Farewell
John Dingell 1926 - 2019

With the passing of John Dingell on Thursday, Feb. 7, we lost a champion of the arts and a true statesman. He represented Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives from December 13, 1955 to January 3, 2015, serving for more than 59 years, the longest uninterrupted Congressional tenure in U.S. history.

He supported the establishment of the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities and helped bring federal investment to arts, cultural and historic venues in Washtenaw County and throughout his district. Last year, he and wife Debbie Dingell were the recipients of the Outstanding Service Medal at our Medal for Arts, Science & Humanities celebration 2018 for their extensive contributions to the arts, creative industries and historic preservation. He will truly be missed.
