News and More from MCACA

Executive Director John Bracey
to Retire this Year

John Bracey, Executive Director of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA), has announced his intention to step down before the end of 2018. For years, he has championed the importance of the arts across Michigan, recognizing that arts and culture must be available for all people and are critical elements of our future quality of life. Rich Homberg, president and CEO of Detroit Public TV, and others thank him for his contributions and support to the Arts in Michigan in this special video below!

The Arts Alliance Announces
$41,300 in Region 9 Minigrants

The Arts Alliance announced that 16 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, plus one individual artist, have been awarded Arts & Cultural Projects and Professional & Organizational Development minigrants for Region 9: Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw counties.

“We applaud the State of Michigan’s investment in arts and culture through the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs,” said Deb Polich, The Arts Alliance president/CEO. “The grants received by The Arts Alliance and our colleagues have a phenomenal ripple effect as they directly impact quality of life, education, economy and tourism throughout the state. We see that impact every day here in Washtenaw County and our Region 9 minigrant recipients report the same.”

The minigrant applications are reviewed by review panels comprised of artists, residents and organizational leaders from Region 9. The panels carefully considered each application based on criteria set by MCACA. Check out the full list.

More than $1 Million Awarded to Washtenaw County in State Arts & Cultural Grants

Washtenaw County artists, as well as arts and cultural organizations, will receive more than $1 million in grants from the MCACA for the FY2019 funding cycle. Thirty-two Washtenaw County-based organizations are receiving grants for operational and project support, capital improvements, and arts in education programs. Washtenaw County received the third highest funding allocation in the state following Wayne ($2.49M) and Kent ($1.23M) counties.
