In The Spotlight
Each issue of our newsletter will feature a local organization serving our community!
Our Featured Partner for this edition of our newsletter is Hayley's Hope Foundation.

The mission of the Hayley’s Hope Foundation is to create an awareness of the issue of teenage suicide and its warning signs, triggers, and its impact on family and the community. This is accomplished through education and provision of resources for professional help to parents/ guardians, educators, peers, and most importantly, those currently in distress.  We offer free presentations to schools, parent/adult groups, youth organizations, church groups, etc.  We are also available to set up our reference table/booth at any community fair or events.  Hayley’s Hope honors the life and legacy of  Hayley Blowers, in whose loving memory this Foundation was founded in 2011.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death in young people ages 18 – 25 and the third leading cause of death in young people ages 10 – 15.  Seventy-five percent of all suicides give some warning of their intentions to a friend or family member.  Warning signs can include abrupt changes in personality,  giving away possessions, withdrawing from group activities and people, changes in sleep and eating patterns, use of drugs or alcohol, complaints of chronic pain, or restlessness.
Hayley’s Hope Foundation will hold its 5th annual A Night of Hope & Awareness fundraiser on Friday, October 23, 2015.  Entertainment will be by the Hot Spots, a variety show of songs and comedy; food will be provided by Texas Roadhouse, and the evening will feature raffles and silent auction items.  The event will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 177 Lynnfield Street, Lynn, MA  01904, 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.  Tickets are $30 per person or $250 for a table of ten.  $20 for children twelve and younger.
The fundraisers not only supports the mission, but a large portion of the proceeds provide scholarships that have been awarded to high school graduates since 2012.  To date Hayley’s Hope has given out about $5,000 in scholarships.  Please visit their website or Facebook page for additional information as well as to purchase advanced tickets.

Children's Friend and Family Services seeks volunteer mentors ages 21 and older to be matched with one youth mentee from the North Shore. Youth are between the ages of 5 and 18, and as a mentor you would meet every week for at least two hours to establish a one-to-one relationship that over a year’s time matures into a genuine, caring friendship. Our mentors – like the individuals and families we serve – come from a variety of backgrounds and professions. Whether it’s taking a walk in the park, watching a movie, cooking or just talking on the phone – when you take time out of your day to enrich the life of a child, you’re making a real difference. Our current program waitlist has 29 youth, there is a significant need! If you are interested or would like to know more, please visit or contact Samantha Alves, Director of Youth Mentoring at or call 978-219- 1528.
