Mark your calendar!  Our 5th Annual Resource & Volunteer Fair will be Saturday, September 10, 2016.

We'll have several non-profits participating to describe the resources and volunteer opportunities they offer, plus live music, food, and activities for kids.

If you are interested in having your non-profit organization participate in the Fair, contact judie@twctin.org.

Programs:

Furniture Bank

There is no doubt that for the 30 years the Furniture Bank has been operating it has played an important role in assuring that there is a cost free resource for non-profits and low income households. This year we provided donated household items free of cost to 1500 low-income families and individuals who are in need all across the Commonwealth, turning an empty house into a warm and welcoming home.

A Bed for Every Child

The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless partners with public schools to assist students whose families are living in poverty. In 2011, our advocates learned that many students in local public schools were not getting a good night's sleep because they did not have their own bed to sleep in at night. Therefore, the Coalition took action and launched A Bed for Every Child. For every $250 raised, we are able to provide a child with a complete new bed: a twin mattress, box spring, bed frame, linens and quilt/comforter.

Teen Closet

Today 1 in 7 children growing up in Massachusetts is growing up in poverty. A teenager growing up in poverty often has to live without the most basic of items like clothing. The Teen Closet is a place for students to stop by during school hours to receive free of cost clothing and hygiene products. Currently we are located in several school in and around the Boston Area

The Room to Breathe

The Room to Breathe Initiative was launched by the Coalition in 2013 to assist low-income families and individuals who are living with chronic respiratory diagnoses to improve their home environment to lessen environmental triggers with a goal of improving their quality of life.

May 3rd

Mark your calendars for the 5th annual “Pink Carnation Day” (PCD); world-wide event.

Please join in on Sunday May 3rd (or on May 1st or 4th if you are participating in schools or workplaces that are not open over the weekend).

We know that words/gestures can hurt BUT we also know these actions can do good; you just never know who will need this lift so pass on a carnation to someone it could make all the difference to them.

You are encouraged to pass a carnation on to someone that needs a kind word, some encouragement for the day, etc..... Make a difference in someone’s life – friend, family, or stranger.

Hayley would have been 21 years old on May 3rd this year, gone too soon. Please join our world-wide "Pink Carnation Day" by giving out 1 or 100's of these flowers.

We all need to know that someone cares!

Please feel free to share this event on your FB, with family, co-workers, church members, schools, etc.....

And if you have a chance to take a photo or two please share with us, send to hayleyslegacy@hotmail.com so we can add onto our website.

August 11th: My Brother's Table (MBT), annual Summer Party fundraiser, will be held Thursday, August 11th at 7:00 pm at Spinelli's, Lynnfield, MA. MBT is the North Shore's largest soup kitchen located in Lynn.  Tickets to the Summer Party are $65 per person and may be reserved by calling My Brother's Table at 781-595-3224 or by visiting their webpage, www.mybrotherstable.org.

Since 1982, MBT has served over 3 million meals to people in need, in all kinds of weather, during years of economic ups and downs.  My Brother's Table receives no government funding and is not a United Way affiliate. Instead, it relies on funding from private and corporate donations. Numerous North Shore businesses and organizations contribute to the Summer Party's success.

As always, the Summer Party will feature fabulous food ― catered by the best restaurants in our area.  Beautiful floral arrangements will be displayed from some of the North Shore's finest florists.  Musical entertainment, an instant wine cellar raffle as well as a silent auction will be held, the auction includes sporting event tickets, trips, gift certificates, and more.

Volunteer Opportunities

My Brother's Table located in Lynn is always accepting volunteers.  Great for families, community service hours or for anyone.  Please call 781-595-3224 for information.  www.mybrotherstable.org.

Children's Friend and Family Services seeks volunteer mentors ages 21 and older to be matched with one youth mentee from the North Shore. Youth are between the ages of 5 and 18, and as a mentor you would meet every week for at least two hours to establish a one-to-one relationship that over a year’s time matures into a genuine, caring friendship. Our mentors – like the individuals and families we serve – come from a variety of backgrounds and professions. Whether it’s taking a walk in the park, watching a movie, cooking or just talking on the phone – when you take time out of your day to enrich the life of a child, you’re making a real difference. Our current program waitlist has 29 youth, there is a significant need! If you are interested or would like to know more, please visit http://childrensfriend.net/services/youth-mentoring/ or contact Samantha Alves, Director of Youth Mentoring at salves@childrensfriend.net or call 978-219- 1528.
