Take a Tropical Vacation in Your Glass!

I don't know about you, but I could sure use a warm weather getaway this winter. But if you can't have that, how about some warm weather drinks and the illusion that it's summer? In my February 23 cocktail class at The Last Word you'll be able to get your passport stamped at several tropical ports as you explore drinks from warm weather destinations like Jamaica, Hawaii, Argentina and Peru. This class features a fun walk-around format with music, more time for socializing, AND a spread of tasty and vacation-appropriate snacks. Prizes awarded for tropical attire!
I'll be reprising this class on March 3 at Evans Street Station in Tecumseh, although there it will be in our typical sit-down format.
Register at my website for these and other upcoming cocktail classes:

March 9: Crafting with Vodka (The Last Word) - Vodka gets a bad rap in the craft cocktail world. Is it deserved? We'll do some experiments and decide for ourselves. Then we'll explore some craft applications for America's bestselling spirit.
March 10: Pink Drinks That Don't Suck (Paula Brown Shop)
March 23: Flips, Fizzes, Sours & Nogs (The Last Word)
April 14: Better with Bubbles (Paula Brown Shop)

Seeking Quotable Quotes!

I'll be launching a brand new Tammy's Tastings website some time in the next few weeks. If you've attended a cocktail class, or hired me for a private event, I'd love to hear from you! I'd like to collect a few quotes from customers to feature on my website so that people new to Tammy's Tastings know what to expect. Email me if you'd like to contribute, and just let me know if I can quote you by name, or if you'd like to remain anonymous!

Featured Cocktail - Neutral Ground

I had so much fun exploring sherry and port cocktails as I prepared for my Sherry & Port class earlier in the month, it was hard to choose just a few for the class! These fortified wines from the Iberian Peninsula make great cocktail additions. Sherry in particular adds really interesting nutty and savory characteristics, and it's used to great effect in this Manhattan variant which was one of the favorites of the evening. In place of the typical sweet vermouth it substitutes a mix of nutty but dry amontillado sherry and sweet and herbal Benedictine.

Neutral Ground
2 oz rye
1/2 oz Amontillado Sherry
1/2 oz Benedictine
3 dashes Regan's Orange Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir well and strain into a cocktail glass.

Modernist Cuisine Workshop and Dinner
Molecular gastronomy. Sous vide. Foams. Spherification. These are some of the most modern cooking methods, which you may have read about online or seen used in TV shows like Top Chef. Would you like to learn more about these fun and creative techniques?
It's been a couple years since I hosted one of my hands-on modernist workshop/dinners, and I'm considering doing so again late this spring if there's sufficient interest. Please email me if this sounds like something you'd be interested in!

Now's the time to think about summer events!
I'm already booking private events into the late spring and early summer. How about a tiki party on the deck? Or a wine tasting bridal shower? Beer and BBQ sauce tasting for Father's Day? Contact me to plan your unique food and wine experience.
