Little Free Library in East Park

Built & Donated by Lowry Neighbor Mike Broaden and Family

If you take the pedestrian pathway on Alton Way between 3rd & 4th Avenues, you'll notice something new - a Little Free Library (LFL) constructed and donated by Lowry's Broaden family.  Mike Broaden built the LFL and contacted the LCMA to find an installation site that would be accessible by the whole community.  The LCMA installed the Little Free Library this week.

We asked Mike about what inspired him to build the LFL:  "We were inspired to create the Little Free Library after spotting others throughout Denver.  After researching the LFL movement, we were moved to construct one that we could share with our neighborhood.  The idea of "take a book, leave a book" promotes literacy, upcycling and community.  We feel very fortunate to live in Lowry and have such incredible neighbors.  The library is not only a way for us to honor our own children, but a way for us to give back to our wonderful neighborhood.  To the extent possible, materials were recycled from other projects, selected for safety and selected for sustainability (roof is beetle kill pine from Colorado)."

Mike credits his wife Sarah for selecting a design and color scheme for the LFL that is complimentary to the neighborhood.  Daughter Addison was in charge of paint touch-ups and selection of the first books to find a new home in the library.  Mike constructed the LFL, but drew inspiration from his parents who, "were both craftspeople in their own right and continue to create wonderful pieces."

Many thanks to the Broaden family for their contribution to our community.  If you have books to donate or are looking for a good read, head on over!
