Be Prepared:  Be Informed

It's that time of year again - the drive to unsubscribe.  The overwhelm of our email inbox seems to only get worse.  You may already be familiar with Nextdoor.  Here's why Nextdoor is important and what you can do to streamline your Nextdoor communications.

The Denver Police Department and the LCMA use Nextdoor to alert the community about crime and safety issues.  Nextdoor provides a way to send information out by neighborhood.  The Denver Police Department has alerted neighborhoods about attempted child abductions, thefts and lockdowns in their area.  Most recently, the LCMA used Nextdoor to alert the community about a series of mailbox break-ins in Lowry and the resulting replacement with more secure mailbox kiosks. Neighbors use it to alert each other of break-ins, car theft, suspicious people and more*.

Nextdoor is also useful for connecting with your neighbors in other ways:  notifications about community events, buying and selling items, finding babysitters, and recommending businesses and contractors.  So how do you keep your Nextdoor notifications from clogging up your email?

Once you join and log into Nextdoor, click on the downward arrow at the top right of the screen.  Select the "Settings" menu.  Under "Emails When Neighbors Post" choose the Custom radio button.  You can choose what kind of emails you wish to receive (or to receive no emails at all).  It's a good idea to at least receive individual emails about Crime and Safety issues and Urgent Alerts.  At the bottom of the page, you can also select to get a Daily Digest instead of individual emails.

You can also choose to get mobile notification of Urgent Alerts, which are very rare, but usually involve critical safety information.  In the same "Settings" screen, click the Mobile Alerts tab.

We still encourage you to continue to receive the LCMA's weekly eNews.  Not signed up?  You can do so on our website, (see below).  We also invite you to connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (#lovelowrydenver).
