Save the Dates - Wickford

I recently had three pieces in the Wickford All Media show and ended up discussing polymer clay with the education director for the Wickford Art Association. So, for everyone who's been asking about classes:  :)

June 9th 7-8pm - Free Polymer Clay Demo
This is a free community event. I'm going to talk about Polymer Clay as an art medium. What that really means is I'll be passing a lot of art and jewelry around and explaining a number of the techniques I've used over the past 16 years. I'll also be demoing a few fun things like the Skinner Blend. Let me know if there's anything you'd particularly like to see.

July 18th - Polymer Clay Jewelry
A great intro class to both polymer clay and jewelry making. We're going to make all sorts of beads, sculptural flowers, learn to mix colors, make textured pendants, and as many other techniques as we can get to.  We'll make an adjustable cord necklace, and assemble jumprings, headpins, chains, and earwires into finished necklaces and earrings.

August 22nd - Sculpting in Relief
I'm really looking forward to this one. This is going to be full day workshop where I'll demo a bird sculpture (probably an egret) but you can make whatever you like. At the end of the class, you should have a finished clay relief (plaque). And don't worry, you don't need any experience in polymer clay or sculpting.

Should be fun! Check out the link below in about a week (when the summer schedule is published) to sign up for classes.

Assets for Artists

It's been busy lately, but in a good way...

A few months ago I applied for a grant that was specifically for rural RI artists interested in entrepreneurship. It was exactly what I was looking for – training in business, marketing, finances and legal, plus matching funding. And I was accepted!

And now they’re opening part of the training part of the program up to all Rhode Island creatives. So if it sounds like something you might be interested in, check it out. Information and links to the signups can be found over on the RISCA blog.

Oh, and in still more news my Barn Owl is taking a tour. He's now on display at the Mystic Arts Center Member's show.
