By the way, if there's a class that you'd like me to teach in the Summer let me know!

I've had a request for image transfers - anyone else?

Magpie Eclectic Earrings  - Register at the Wickford Art Association .

Embrace your inner magpie, and make your own treasures. I'll show you several techniques to make your own earrings.

Match a favorite outfit, make a special gift, design your earrings just the way you like them. We will cover a variety of techniques such as wire spirals, links, and connections between chains, beads, and wire. You'll also learn how to use findings such as headpins, eyepins, jumprings and earwires.

And I'll be bringing as much of my bead stash as I can carry.   :)

Sculpting Flowers & Butterflies

Saturday, April 6, 10 AM - 3 PM

Wickford Art Association
36 Beach Street
Wickford, Rhode Island 02852

Register at the Wickford Art Association .

Learn to sculpt delicate flowers and butterflies in polymer clay and create a finished piece of art.

Techniques will be demonstrated on a relief sculpture of forget-me-nots and a Karner Blue butterfly. Reference images for the same project will be provided, but you're welcome to sculpt whatever you like.

We'll cure the sculptures in class, then spend some time on painting techniques for polymer clay with acrylics. I will demo how to frame and mount your pieces and if your paint dries in time, you will be able to frame your own art in class.

No experience needed.

It Starts Here - Sunday at 1pm
Show opening - Wickford Art Center

Stop by on Sunday January 13th at 1pm. This is a great show with instructor and student work.

I'm really proud that a few of my students entered their jewelry or sculpture. I'm always inspired by how everyone takes the same instructions and creates something completely different.

I'll have a few of my pieces on display too, including a couple jewelry pieces like the necklace below. This is "The Guardian".

I was imagining Sleeping Beauty's castle, the roses and thorns intertwined over the years. Small creatures moving in for safety and protection ... The snake is ominous yet innocent. It protects the vines from pests and the thorns protect it from predators, while inside the ring of briars the princess sleeps.

I sculpted the necklace in multiple sessions, with at least 5 curings for the clay and then additional heat setting for the special paint I used.

I wanted to continue the vine theme for the rest of the necklace so I handtwisted black cord to make it thicker, then used that and much thinner green fibers to make a spiraling kumihimo strand.

I used a combination of brass and copper for the findings, hand forging them, torching firing the ends of the wires, and adding patina to bring out the texture.
