Children and Young People

November / December 2016

Welcome to the latest news from the Children & Young People Team. In this edition of our latest news we have covered a broad perspective of research, resources and articles that will either aid or inspire your ministry with children and young people.

As Advent and Christmas draws ever closer (only 6 Fridays now) there is the rush within Churches for the preparation into activities and services that often sweeps people up in a surge of busyness and panic, however perspective is needed and the constant reminder that encounter and engagement is required rather than just entertainment.  As we begin to think about a new year and new programmes, ideas and initiatives, I would encourage you to complete a review and evaluation of the past year's ministry. Reviews will highlight pieces of excellent work and also highlight areas for development in future pieces of work. Asking questions such as “Did that session/event achieve its purpose and aims?”, “How does that piece of work/ministry fit into our churches mission plan and intergenerational ministry as a whole?” and “Was that the best way to use resources or could they be used more effectively in another way?”  By first asking these types of questions within planning, prayer and preparation a broader perspective is achieved, by including quality time in prayer as individuals and teams will instil God’s purpose and vision for your ministry into the lives of the children, families and young people that you serve.

So as we approach times of hectic activity, make space for prayer, encounter and wonder instead of entertainment in programmes alongside the wider perspectives of “Rooted in Faith”, Lifelong faith and intentional mission in ministry.

As usual, we encourage you to contact one of us should you wish to discuss any particular issues regarding your church's ministry with children and young people.
