This is our first official Cloud City Conservation Center quarterly newsletter with new opportunities for recycling, clean energy, and healthy homes.  We expect great things in 2015.  We also invite you to check out all that we accomplished last year with your help:
2014 Annual Report

On the Home Front

Free Radon Test Kits

Radon is the leading cause of lung-cancer in non-smokers, and claims more than 20,000 lives a year (EPA, 2014).  Radon is a natural occurring gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in the soil.  According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), average radon tests in Lake County show levels elevated above the EPA's recommendations.  Test your home now.

Lake County Public Health is teaming up with Cloud City Conservation Center (C4) to offer free radon test kits, available at the Lake County Environmental Services office (112 West 5th Street) or as part of your C4 Home Energy Assessment.

Check out our new Contractor List.  Who is on it? Qualified contractors who are committed to meeting the high expectations of our program and who qualify for energy rebates including the $400 energy rebate available in Lake County.  Contractors on this list have committed to high quality work, quality assurance with C4, and prompt and friendly customer service.

Two new recycle drop-sites will be available in February, thanks to a partnership between C4 and Lake County and $200,000 in grant funds from the Freeport McMoran Community Investment Fund and CDPHE.  Drop sites will accept: #1-7 plastics, aluminum, cardboard (and paper board), mixed paper and glass.  We are looking for drop-site monitors.  Give us four hours of your time and we'll give you something awesome to do!

Solar Power

The Lake County Solar Garden is sold out.  This 500 kW solar array will reduce atmospheric carbon by 1,280,000 pounds annually.  Who has purchased panels? Lake County Government, Parkville Water, Moosehaven HOA, Park County Government and Lake County home-owners.  If you are still interested in reserving panels and did not get a chance to buy in, put your name on the waitlist

We are a non-profit organization based in Leadville and Lake County, Colorado.  Our mission is to create community infrastructure that sustains and supports the natural environment.
