Do you like the planet?  Do you like to party?  It's almost time for PARTY FOR THE PLANET, a free event for C4 members with MUSIC, FOOD, and Green Champion Awards.  Earth Day, April 22nd, from 5-7pm at Harperrose Studios, 601 Harrison Ave.

Don't forget to shop for the planet on Earth Day, these Leadville businesses are donating 20% of proceeds to local environmental programs on that day: City on a Hill, Cookies with Altitude, Community Threads, Cycles of Life, Harperrose Studios, High Mountain Pies, Leadville Outdoors and Melanzana.

First Funding Received for Greenhouse and Farm

The Copper Environmental Foundation has just made the first $7,000 project donation to the Cloud City Farm, Greenhouse and Living Classroom.  C4 is working with project partners to develop a near-net-zero, four season greenhouse, to be within walking distance from the Lake County Intermediate School and High School.  This educational greenhouse plus outdoor gardens will also be a market CSA (community supported agriculture) venture, meaning you can buy a share of fresh winter greens or summer produce and have it delivered weekly.  We aim to have this farm in full operation by Spring 2017.

A Local Challenge Has Been Issued

Leadville local food and greenhouse supporters have pledged $500 to the greenhouse, farm and living classroom. Help us match this $500 gift!  If we can match this funding locally by the end of the day on Earth Day, April 22nd.  This money will fund the first row of triple polycarbonate panels on the greenhouse itself.  There's some really cool technology out there; this three layer rigid barrier allows 76% of the light to pass through while insulating our plants from the cold.  Give 10$ and you pay for 5 square feet of panelling.  We'll take all the help we can get to match this donation.  With your support, when we reach our goal, we may convince our local food-loving funders to reveal themselves.

Nominate your local Green Champion

Do you know of a person or organization in the community who makes an extra effort to take care of the environment?  Perhaps this person helps with local environmental volunteer opportunities or started a recycling program at work?  Maybe it's a business that improved the energy efficiency of its facility.  Whoever it is, C4 wants to recognize them at our Party for the Planet with a Green Champion Award.  Nominate your 2016 Green Champion by calling, emailing, or visiting our nomination page.
After receiving an audit from
Cloud City Conservation Center, Cheri hired Mill Creek Carpentry to
increase the insulation levels in her attic, seal major air gaps, and
create a warm, dry crawlspace. “I’m so happy with all the
improvements and wouldn’t have thought of doing these without the
energy audit. I had originally thought of doing windows but these
improvements will actually be better and cost less,” she said.
