Que Pasa Grecia
2021 Update 7
New in Que Pasa Grecia
We have a new listing for a couple of fishing rods plus a moving sale has listed over 20 items ‘For Sale/Wanted.’ We also added a link on our ‘Resources’ page ‘Organic Produce – Delivered’ to a website of local organic fruits and veggies (pay by SINPE). They deliver to Grecia and the GAM. Also added is a recommendation for Casa Nosstra, a restaurant started by some of the former employees of Casa de Miguel. Please head to the Que Pasa website and get reacquainted.
We have been trying to clean up our restaurant listings as COVID restrictions have been particularly tough on the survival of local eating establishments. Sadly, we have deleted Casa Real, The Red Door, and Pele’s. (We recently discovered Pele himself recently passed from a case of COVID.) If you are aware of restaurant listings or other businesses that have recently succumbed, please let us know so that we can do our best to keep our ‘Resources’ listings up to date.
COVID-19 Status and Vaccine Availability in Costa Rica
COVID vaccines continue to be delivered to Costa Rica. Every citizen and legal resident 18 and over should be able to get access to the COVID vaccine now.
With regard to the prospect of a third COVID booster shot, the government is focused on getting everyone vaccinated as the defense against the COVID delta variant, whose viral load makes it 11 times more communicable than the original COVID-19. Perhaps, later when demand has waned there will be an opportunity to get boosters from unused vaccines before their expiration dates.
The delta variant and now lambda variant of COVID are here and need to be taken seriously. Get your shot. Remember, we may be done with COVID-19, but COVID-19 is not done with us.
Weekend Daytime Driving Restrictions Will Be Removed Beginning 1 September
The government is eager to offer its support for tourism from locals. And so, it will remove weekend daytime COVID driving restrictions beginning Monday, 1 September. Nighttime no-driving restrictions will remain weeklong from 10pm to 5am.
C.R.’s Version of a ‘Vaccine Passport’
In mid-July, I was notified that I had to re-apply for the digital COVID vaccine passport. Karen and I did this on 24 July. It is supposed to be a 10-day process and it has now been almost one month and no passport, nor word that there will be a delay, nor notification that more input is required. I just sent an email query to the Ministry of Health email address and I’ll keep you posted as to what takes place.
Good news! The Ministry of Health is now offering the digital COVID vaccine certificate process via a QR code. It should be easier and faster unless, for some reason, you need the certificate apostiled. (Go online to the 22/08, Sunday, 7am edition of “Q Costa Rica” for details.)
Be careful out there and stay safe,
