ADVANTAGE Summer Newsletter 2015
Welcome to this update from all in Project ADVANTAGE. For the latest developments in the project, and updates on our events schedule please see www.fp7-advantage.eu. You can see our ADVANTAGE video and presentations from recent Training events on our YouTube channel.

Our Early Stage Researchers are now well into their PhD studies and training programme. They have each completed their own individual research plans focussing on the direction of their research within our 4 Work packages:
  • Smart Homes
  • Neighbourhood/Industrial Area Networks
  • Micro Grids
  • Intelligent Distribution Networks
We are currently planning for the next Training event in the network which will take place from 26th - 30th October 2015, hosted by CTTC in Barcelona and will include the Project's formal Mid-Term Review by the EC. We are very pleased that Professor Georgios Giannakis of the University of Minnesota, Professor Antonio Gomez-Exposito of the University of Seville and Professor Ari Pouttu of the University of Oulu wil all be speaking at this event. Details of the public part of the Programme (from Monday 26th October to lunchtime on Wednesday 28th October) are available on our website and any non-ADVANTAGE members are very welcome to attend for a small registration fee.
ADVANTAGE visit to Vestas Wind Systems A/S, Denmark in May 2015.
Our second ADVANTAGE training event took place from 4th – 8th May 2015, hosted by Aalborg University. A fully packed schedule was offered including a day trip to the headquarters of Global Energy Company Vestas and to the smart-metering company Kamstrup.  We particularly enjoyed the visit to (and spectacular catering at!) the Lindholm Høje Museum.  Each of our Early Stage Researchers presented a poster at this event and talks were offered on a wide range of Smart Grid related topics including Radio access protocols, Developments in control theory, and DSO Challenges. Talks on start-up of companies were also given by Per Pedersen of Neogrid Technologies and Rasmus Krigslund of Vestas.
ADVANTAGE trip to the Lindholm Høje Museum burial ground in Aalborg.
In March of this year we submitted the first State of the Art Literature Review Deliverable from each Work package. To find out more about the research undertaken by each of our Early Stage Researchers, please view these Literature Reviews under Dissemination on our project website.
Our Network is growing with an increasing number of Associated Partners looking set to join the network as hosts to our Early Stage Researchers on their secondments across Europe and to the USA. We expect these secondments to commence from September of this year.

Participants in the EES-EUTP Building-to-Smart-Grid Integration course at the University of Seville, June 2015.
We encourage our ESRs to attend and find out about as many ADVANTAGE-related conferences as possible. To date attendance at the first BioSense Scientific Workshop,  February 18th-20th, 2015 at the University of Novi Sad and the EES-EUTP Course: Building-to-Smart-Grid Integration, June 17th – 19th, 2015 at the University of Seville have been particularly fruitful.

We are actively planning for Training event 4 to be hosted by the University of Novi Sad in Spring 2016 and for a one day UK workshop to take place in the UK in autumn 2016.  Please see our website for updates on these events.
The main ADVANTAGE Conference will take place in 2017 and as plans and location emerge we will post information on our website.
