ADVANTAGE Newsletter 2017
Welcome to this update from project ADVANTAGE. For the latest developments in the project, and information on our events schedule please see
We are pleased to announce details of our one day Workshop on Integrating Communications, Control, and Computing Technologies for Smart Grid (ICT4SG) to be held at IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 21st - 25th May 2017, Paris, France. To enhance the program of the ICT4SG workshop to be held on Thursday 25th May, the organisers are offering a Recent Results session that will provide an opportunity for rapid dissemination of emerging work by industry and academic researchers. Authors registered for the workshop may present a poster or a demo of their work in the relevant session of the event. Please send the title and 100 word abstract/description to by Friday 14th April 2017.

Project ADVANTAGE will also be providing a Special Session at IEEE PES Powertech "Towards and Beyond Sustainable Energy Systems", 18th - 22nd June 2017, Manchester, UK. Early Stage Researchers Madalina Buzau, Mirsad Cosovic, Gautham Krishnadas, Ruben Lliuyacc, Achilleas Tsitsimelis and Pierre Vogler-Finck will be taking part in a Special Session at this Conference.

Early Stage Researchers Marko Angjelichinoski and
Madalina Buzau will be presenting at an ADVANTAGE Joint Workshop (with FP7 project SUNSEED  and H2020 project P2P-SmarTest) at the Royal Academy of Engineering, London, UK on 10th April 2017. This Joint Workshop is being organised by Mahesh Sooriyabandara of Toshiba. Please contact or if you are interested in attending.
Our most recent Training event, a one day Research Seminar held at the Royal Society in London on 28th October 2016, attended by forty three delegates, was a significant dissemination milestone for ADVANTAGE. The event gathered together leading names in the field of Smart Grid development including notable academics, industrialists and international research groups. Thus ADVANTAGE was able to showcase the Early Stage Researchers' research progress and to foster valuable working relations.

Talks were given as follows:
Alastair Martin, Flexitricity
“An Overview of Demand Response for the Smart Grid”

Damien Ernst, University of Liège
Active network management for Distribution Network: an integrated approach"
Stephen McArthur, University of Strathclyde
"Distributed Intelligence and Analytics for improved Operation of Power Networks"

Dimitrios Rovas, University College London
"Model-based energy management in non-residential Buildings"
Andres Laya, Wireless@kth
"Interdisciplinary Research in the Internet of Things (IoT)"

and a panel session on Future Research Challenges for Smart Grid with the external speakers as panellists, also joined by Gordon Parker of Michigan Technological University.
Many of our Early Stage Researchers have successfully completed secondments to other academic or industrial locations, a feature of such Marie Curie funded projects.  We are very grateful to new Associated Partners to the ADVANTAGE network in providing these invaluable opportunities for research and travel across Europe and the USA.
