June Food Access Update

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Community Members;

The end of the 2015-2016 school year is nigh. Along with the transformation into warmer summer days comes many food related events, programs, and volunteer opportunities that we are want to share with everyone.

Kendall Elementary Plant Sale & Fresh Market

The final day of the Youth run Spring Market is this week on Wednesday the 8th from 3 - 5 pm. The vegetables for sale at the market are provided from a combination of student grown crops and local farmers. They hope to return next year with a fall market.

Kendall Elementary is having a plant sale on Friday June 10th, from 9 to 4. They will be selling veggie starts, perennials, shrubs, Japanese maples, and seeds. All proceeds go towards maintaining and improving the School Food and Garden education program.

Grow a row for the food bank

Do you want to help fight hunger in the Foothills region? Do you have a home garden? If so then think about planting an additional row for the Foothills Food Bank.

Bring your home-grown bounty to Saint Peter's Church on Tuesday mornings between 7:45-8:30am and it'll get distributed to hungry families that day. If you can't make it to the donation time  call Marjie at 360-927-3671 to schedule a pick up.

The FFB is interested in any fresh produce that they can get for their patrons, but here is a list of veggies that are easy to transport and store without damage:

  • Tomatoes (slightly underripe)
  • Green Beans
  • Squash (winter, summer, or zucchini)
  • Garlic and onions
  • Peppers (hot, sweet, and bell)
  • Potatoes

Summer Meal Program

Mt Baker School District will be hosting the USDA Summer Meal Program once again this year. The Meals are free to everyone  ages 1 - 18.
