December Food Access Update
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Community Members;
Happy holidays and warmest wishes from the Foothills Community Food Partnership! Here is your December Food Access Update.
USDA Community Food Projects Grant
The Foothills Food Bank, with the support of the FCFP, is thrilled to announce that they have submitted a proposal for funding through the USDA's Community Food Projects Competitive Grant Program. This funding would support staffing for the Food Bank, collaboration with the Mount Baker School District, and a partnership between the Foothills Food Bank and Twin Sisters Farmers Market that would increase the amount of fresh, locally-grown produce being served at Food Bank distributions. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped throughout this process, it takes a village!
Winter and Spring Pantry
Donations of healthy, non-perishable, and kid-friendly food are currently being collected for the Winter and Spring Pantry program at several locations around the Foothills. The Winter and Spring Pantry program provides supplemental nutritious snacks and meals for low-income elementary school students and their families to assist over school breaks. This year, the program has expanded to include Harmony Elementary, and will serve over 140 local students.
Ways to help:
- Make a donation of non-perishable, nutritious foods that kids prepare themselves.
- Help us by underwriting program expenses or donating perishable foods, which will be collected closer to the distribution dates in mid-December.
- Volunteer to help pack and deliver bags of food on December 17th and 18th.

Community Meals at the EWRRC
There are several community meals happening at the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center to celebrate the holidays. The East Whatcom Community Council will be hosting a potluck at 6pm on Thursday, December 3rd at the EWRRC. No one will be turned away for lack of food to contribute, and the meal is open to everyone. Cross Water and Seeds of Hope will also be offering a holiday meal at 1pm on Sunday, December 6th at the EWRRC.
For questions, please contact EWRRC Coordinator, Jessica Bee at Jessica_bee@oppco.org.
