Foxborough Students Arrive at  ASV

The twelve global exchange students from Foxborough Regional Charter School (FRCS) arrived at the  American School of Valencia and were greeted by their host ASV students, Ms. Elena Corchs and Mr. Michael L. Smith (watch them at the airport waiting for them).

After lunch and some refreshments, ASV students provided a tour of the ASV campus to their respective FRCS student, received their class schedules for the next two weeks and had an opportunity to get to know one another better. The FRCS students will attend classes and participate in a variety of ASV activities until February 26, 2016 when they will return to Massachusetts (USA). After a trip lasting more than 18 hours, the FRCS students are ready for some rest before exploring Valencia with their ASV host families. So, welcome to ASV, Valencia and Spain!

AMAC Basketball Tournament

The ASV senior basketball teams traveled last week  to Lisbon, Portugal to participate in the AMAC sports conference events for 2016. The tournament took place at CAISL (Carlucci American International School) campus. Students were hosted by families from the school community, completing the sport experience with a cultural exchange. Read some comments made by the ASV staff who accompanied our players.

ASM Ensembles Performing at ASV

Three music ensembles from the American School of Madrid visited the school campus to offer two short concerts for ASV staff and High School students. The programme included a variety of pieces performed by the Upper School Choir, the Upper School Classical Ensemble and the Upper School Jazz Band, all of them conducted by Ms. Joy Enfield and Mr. Chris Suazo.

Students Enjoyed an Interactive Music Show

On Thursday February 11, ASV hosted a music show performed by the ensemble Tin Man and the Telephone for grades 5 through 8. This music trio based in Amsterdam offered an innovative show composed of jazz pieces,  multimedia effects and interactive games played using an app. Students were invited to participate by using their cell phones or tablets. It was an enjoyable combination of technology and art but our Wi-Fi spots at the theater almost collapsed!
Planning for Reading Week 2016 has begun!  This year we will be bringing some writers to the school to give readings of their work.  We know that there are some parent authors in the ASV community as well. Please let us know if you would be interested in reading to our students between April 18 to 22.

Preparing Falllas. Updates on the Construction Workshop and Other Notes

It’s been a marvelously messy week of paper mache in the Fallas studio. Parents and teachers accompanied grades one through five during this crucial activity. Not afraid to get their hands slimy and sticky, everyone dove into gallons and gallons of mache.  A great deal was accomplished this week, but we’ll need to keep up the energy and enthusiasm headed into next week as we continue compiling different aspects of cultures around the world.

Parent Volunteers
Thanks to all the 2nd grade parents who collaborated this week in the Fallas workshop. This is a positive experience for their children and with their support we achieved everything for the week by Thursday. Next week, third and fourth grade will take over!

Submit Participation Form
As you know, Students will be able to dress up with their costume during our Fallas Day on March 11. Please confirm no later than Monday, February 15, if you  that your child is joining the ASV Corte de Honor

Get Ready for the Arts Day

Friday, March 11 is our 8th Annual Arts Day for students in 7th through to 12th Grade. We know that many of our students have creative interests which stretch beyond our normal curriculum. Arts Day provides a break from our normal schedule and the opportunity for students to spend an extended period of time in an Arts based workshop (Music, Drama, Art, or Dance). Thus offering them a chance to share a passion in school with their peers or experience something new. Learn who is giving some of these workshops and check a preliminary schedule.
