Junior Indoor Hockey Tournament at ASV
The ASV Athletic Center is being an outstanding venue for indoor hockey this weekend. On February 11 and 12, 2017, the school campus is hosting two sectors or preliminary rounds of the 63th Spanish Indoor Hockey Junior Tournament. The tournament is featuring eight teams which will compete for a place in the final four. Xaloc Hockey Club, partner of ASV promoting this sport, organizes the event and plays both competitions (boys and girls).
The tournament is being held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 11:00 to 21:00 h., and on Sunday, February 12, 2017, from 9:00 to 14:00 h. On Saturday matches start at 13 h. but students enrolled at the ASV+ hockey activity, in grades 3 through 7, will have a special training session with Xaloc players.
The venue, the ASV Athletic Center, is a high-performance athletic facility recently upgraded with new lockers, multipurpose rooms, sound system, and a comfortable café featuring nice views inside and outside the building. The tournament is open to all of the ASV community.

PBIS Parent Workshop with Dr. George Sugai
On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, from 19:00-20:30, Dr. George Sugai will conduct a parent workshop about the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program. PBIS was an initiative ASV began in 2015-1016 in Preschool and Elementary and which was well-received by parents and staff. Consequently, ASV has initiated the school wide implementation of PBIS in High School as well.

Time to Order the Elementary and High School Yearbooks!
High School and Elementary School will release yearbooks in May and June. These books will have individual photos of all of the students in these grades (1st to 5th in Elementary, 6th to 12th in High School) alongside articles and pictures highlighting the best moments of the academic year 2016-2017.
Interested families can use this online form to order your yearbook(s) NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 28, 2017. For your convenience, you can order both yearbooks and additional copies just completing the same form.
Please, register with your ASV Google account under the domain @parentasvalencia.org to confirm you are member of the school community. Don’t miss a chance to get a high-quality book preserving the best memories of your child.

Preschool Prepares for Carnival
Preschool has Carnival on Friday, February 24, 2017. Students can dress up on this day. Please make sure that the costumes are comfortable and easy to remove for going to the toilet. Swords, guns and knives are not allowed.
Everyone is invited to attend the parade that will take place in Park B at 15:00 h. Parents will be able to pick up their children after this event but, please, communicate this decision to the school office by filling the online form.
As it is tradition at ASV, children will enjoy arts and crafts and games in the morning. Thank you to all of those parents who are volunteering to collaborate with this part of the celebration. There will be a 10-minutes meeting with Ms. Elena Corchs on February 24, right before starting the workshops, to prepare the activity.

We are building the Falla!
A huge thanks to our art teacher, Ms. Jackie Paarhuis, for leading the ASV Fallas workshop. Students are excited to go to the atrium to build figures and other elements. They have great skills for this! As Ms. Jackie said last week, this is a community project and parents are invited to collaborate.

Students Recognitions
Students recently recognized for outstanding behaviour had the opportunity to have lunch at the Table of Excellence on Tuesday. Eight children received new diplomas during the 1st and 2nd grade assembly on Friday.

5th Grade helping Kapita
The fifth grade sponsored the bake sale this week and will again next Tuesday. All donations go to help Kapita School in Zambia.

Fun Run to raise funds for Kapita School
The ASV Foundation, with organizational support of the Elementary Student Council, will be holding a Fun Run to raise funds for the Kapita School. Students in grades 3-5 have pledge forms, which are due Tuesday, to collect per-lap pledges from family and close family friends. Students will run laps on Friday afternoon and collect the pledges, based on how many laps they run, next weekend.

Theater Performance: “Neverland”
Classes in 1st through 5th gradewill enjoy a new theater performance in English on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. They will see a play called “Neverland”, in two different shows adapted to their ages.

5th Grade Parent Meeting
There will be a meeting of all 5th grade parents on Thursday, March 2 at 3:20. How to Talk to Your Adolescent and the IB Learner Profile are the major themes. All 5th grade parents are asked to RSVP with a link they will receive next week.

Oral Presentations Closed the Science Activity "Group 4 Project"
Students taking science courses in 11th grade had the oral presentation of the activity Group 4 Project. During a special class time held at the theater, each team presented the result of a multidisciplinar research on food and nutrients to their classmates and the High School Science Department. Teachers will judge their work by assessing the research, the work on the school lab, the final report, and the communication skills.

ASV Student Performs at TEDx Event
Annefleur Bruin (10th Grade) has been invited to perform at TEDxAlcoi, an independent TED event, on March 3, 2017. The student will sing her song “Brave Men, Brave Souls”, a tribute to the UN Peacekeeing Forces, during the third part of TEDxAlcoi, which is focused on education.

School Dance on St. Valentine's Day
On Friday, February 17, 2017, our High School Student Council is sponsoring a school dance for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at the American School of Valencia. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to have fun in a safe environment.
The fee to participate in activities will be 10 Euros with food, supervision, and the dance included in this price. ASV staff and High School students will serve as chaperones throughout the event and the event is being organized for students only. Parents will be responsible to provide transportation home after the dance.
The program will be as follows:
- 16:30–17:00: Afterschool Snack of Pizza and Drinks (included in the price of entry).
- 17:00–19:30: Dance, Optional: Games and Bake Sale (1 euro each additional)
- 19:30: Parent pick up at the front gate of the school. Please be prompt.

Open House Day at the University of Valencia
On Wednesday, February 14, 2017, 11th Grade will visit the University of Valencia, as part of the annual orientation event for students in pre-universitary grades. The activity includes three different tour options: the campus in Burjassot, the campus at Blasco Ibáñez and the campus in Tarongers.
Each ASV student have already selected the group he would like to attend and must go to the respective meeting point on his own at 9:45 h. Once the visit has finished by 1.00 p.m., the students will return to school by bus with the ASV teachers supervising the activity: Mr. Matías Benlloch and Ms. Mariví Corell.

Reminder on communication with the School Nurse
We would like to inform you about our procedures on health issues, which are necessary to keep our students safe, as well as some procedures to follow when contacting with the school nurse.
- The best time to contact Ms. Inma Requena is first thing in the morning, before 10:30, preferably by e-mail.
- Please follow these instructions regarding medicine administration at schoo and symptoms which may require medical absences.

Learning Day for Languages
This week all the ASV+ Languages had their Learning Day, where parents had the opportunity to learn with their children vocabulary in French or German, play games or sing songs. We want to thank all the families who came it was a great experience and in the next few days all the families will recive the video of their Learning Day so they can watch it at home with their children.

JV and Varsity girl’s Soccer
On Sunday February 5, 2017 our two Girl’s Soccer teams played against Picassent FC, two games. It was an amazing event, we had rain and wind but our girls are strong fighters and they all stayed to play. We had an incredible morning, all the families were very supportive and we ended the day with a lunch all together with the Picassent players. We want to take this opportunity to thank Mr Ojelade who is our girl’s soccer coach and is doing an excellent job with our girls, in addition to this, congratulate our players who played with no rest and stood up to two teams who regularly plays in the soccer league, well done Girls!
