Director’s Introduction of  new ASV Preschool and Elementary Principal, Dr. Ann C. Kox

On behalf of our school community, I am pleased to announce the appointment of ASV’s new Preschool and Elementary Principal, Dr. Ann C. Kox. ASV was fortunate to receive so many highly qualified candidates for this position, but I was especially impressed with Dr. Kox’s commitment to supporting our school’s vision of connecting with all members of our school community and focusing on each student’s growth for the future.

I hope you will join me in welcoming her to our dynamic school community, and I am pleased to share some information about Dr. Kox and her family.

Have a great summer,

Michael L. Smith

Dr. Kox holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in English and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin, as well as a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College. She holds multiple certifications as a Principal, Director of Teaching and Learning, Director of Pupil Services, English and Special Education.
She will be relocating to Valencia in mid-August with her husband, Mr. Brian Kox, who will serve as a High School Learning Support Specialist, and her two children. In accepting the position as the Preschool and Elementary Principal,  Dr. Kox remarked:

“My family and I are delighted to be joining the educational team at ASV!  My career has been dedicated to strengthening outcomes for students: helping students to redefine their expectations of themselves, supporting teachers to maximize their effect, and connecting with parents to combine our efforts. The work begins with listening and understanding the needs of the school; every school has its unique history and personality, just like every student.  I hope to hear from each parent, teacher and student regarding what you love about ASV, and what your thoughts are to continue strengthening the overall program. The best programs are balanced and coordinated, attending to all aspects of student development so that students are truly college and career ready, graduating with many doors open. I look forward to using all I know about educational leadership and school improvement to add value to your child’s education.  Please email me to introduce yourself at“

First and Second Grade Renovations in Progress

In a continued effort to improve the quality of instruction and facilities at ASV, the renovation of the first and second grade learning spaces has begun and is proceeding well.  At this early stage in the renovation, we are removing 30 years of accumulated modifications that have become outdated.

Our goal is to provide a contemporary education that converge our educational philosophy, curricular offerings, visible learning spaces, and high-performance instruction into one unified learning platform.  Our learners will greatly benefit from integrated technologies and flexible seating.  Anyone who has seen the high school pilot classroom will know that our learners and families are in for a wonderful and engaging learning experience.

We will post additional photos of the construction progress on our social media outlets, so please stay tuned to see the construction updates during the summer.
