ASV VOICES #79  / FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2016

A Warm Welcome from the Director

On behalf of the faculty, staff and Board of Governors of the American School of Valencia, please allow me to welcome all of you to an exciting 2016-2017 academic year, especially our new students and families who will join our school from 27 different countries. There has never been a more exciting time to be a member of our international school community.

Over the summer, our world-class staff has been working tirelessly to enhance the quality of the programs, services and facilities we offer to all members of our school community, and I am confident that our students and families will enjoy these upgrades, now and for many years to come.

In this issue of the school newsletter, ASV Voices, you will find an overview of what students experienced during the first days of classes, alongside some important reminders and notes  from the different areas within ASV.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back, encourage you to enjoy the privileges of being a member of such a vibrant ASV school community, and to thank you for all of your continued support. Have an amazing school year!

With all best wishes,

Michael L. Smith
Director

It is great to see you here! Overview of the beginning of the academic year 2016-2017

Although each school division has its specific proceedings, this first two days of the school year the entire ASV faculty worked with a common goal: give a warm welcome to all of the students and make sure they start the school year full of excitement and joy.

Families with children in Preschool had their specific orientation meetings on Wednesday and, as it is usual, Nursery and PK1 are starting the school gradually.

Elementary students used the first day to get familiar with their new classmates and teachers. 1st and 2nd graders could see that their area significantly changed during the summer holidays! They also participated in a welcome assembly leaded by the new Principal, Dr. Ann C. Kox.

The first period for High School was addressed to meet their new advisory group and receive the lockers. After that, they started to work on their specific courses. Today they were invited to enjoy a scavenger hunt around the school campus.

ASV Ambassador Program

The orientation for new families held on Wednesday included a school tour guided by groups of High School students volunteering at the ASV Ambassador program. We appreciate the support they are offering to the new students! #ASVNewYear

New ASV Values Poster

Students and teachers know what is the role of ASV Values in their daily life. These guidelines contribute to the success and the welfare of our school community and they are summed up in a new poster which also connects them with the ASV Profile of the Graduate. Take some time to read it.

Student-Teachers from American Universities

Once again, we are having undergraduate students from American universities who wish to spend a training time at the ASV. These are the student-teachers assigned during the first term:
  • Catherine Carmona (Florida State University). Collaborating with Ms. Rosemarie Lima (1B)

  • Emily Barker (University of Northern Colorado). Collaborating in High School
Welcome to Valencia!

Upgrading Athletic Facilities

The athletic facilities are experiencing significant upgrades based on the ever increasing demand by our students for athletic activities and expanded dining services. As it was previously announced, we are enlarging and upgrading the athletic field, adding classrooms and new locker rooms to the Sports Hall, as well as adding a new dining facility for senior high school students.

The athletic facility upgrades are on schedule with our timeline and our students will begin to enjoy the fruits of these efforts in a few weeks.

School Regular Fee

We would like to remind you that the ASV business office usually invoices the school regular fee during the first week of each month. However, due to withdrawals and registration of new students and the request of bus service, there is a necessary delay of a few days in September. We inform you that we expect to process that first invoice by next Wednesday, September 14, 2016.

The school fees for the academic year 2016-2017 are publicly available on this section of the school website.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Continuity Insurance

We remind you that as of the school year 2015-2016, the Continuity Insurance is included in the regular school fee at no additional cost.

Non-automatic Payments

As of the school year 2015-2016, in order to speed up and streamline the payment process, we encourage every family to automate the payments through their bank. The non-automatic payments will have an additional charge of 2 euros per issued invoice. In the event of paying 50% or 100% of the school year, no additional cost will be charged.

If you wish to automate the payment, you may send a letter signed by the bank account’s holder or email attaching the scanned letter to Mr. Alfredo Querol at alfredoquerol@asvalencia.org including the bank account details and account holder’s name. Please note that the holder must be the person who authorizes the charge in his/her account.

Cash Payments

For security reasons the Business Office will not accept any cash payment made directly at the school office after 12:00 noon. Payments by credit card, debit card or checks will continue to be accepted in the afternoon. If you wish to pay cash after 12:00, you may make a bank transfer or deposit the cash into the school’s bank account. Our back account details will be provided upon request at alfredoquerol@asvalencia.org

Remember that cash payments must fulfil some rules referred on this official note from the AEAT.
