Over 150 International Students Take Part in VALMUN 2015

ASV hosted the third annual VALMUN conference on the weekend of November 20 - 22. It was the largest conference to date seeing over 150 students participating. Visiting schools arrived on Friday November 20 and were quickly guided by admin staff to their committee rooms after receiving their official badges. Saturday morning began with an official opening ceremony led by secretary general Carlos Guemes and ASV Director Michael Smith. We were honoured to have Mr. Byron Perez from the UN BASE Valencia as the keynote speaker share his encouraging words with the delegates. Read several comments on this event and track back photos and posts by using the hashtag #VALMUN2015 on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Reminder for Winter Concerts

We are so happy to announce that our Winter Concerts 2015 are fast approaching!  In fact, our 3rd and 4th Grades Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 1st!!!

We would like to take this opportunity to bring your attention to some details so that everyone can enjoy these so special events:
  • You can find all the details about outfits, dates and times for all of the Elementary Concerts clicking here.
  • For Preschool Grades, please remember to visit the classroom Google site to learn more about their clothes and colors. Their Concert will take place on Thursday, December 16th, at 2.00 pm. Older siblings from Elementary will have already seen the Preschool rehearsal, so they will not come to the performance.
  • Our youngest students in Nursery cannot participate in the Concerts because they are so little…  But, we will record a DVD with them in the classroom so that you all can have a nice souvenir of their first Christmas at school!
  • Every family, from Nursery to Grade 6, will receive a DVD with their children’s performances at no additional cost.
  • If you wish to take your child home after the show, please fill in this form in advance, so as to inform both teachers and bus monitors.
  • Remember that our parking lot will be open on concert dates. Please arrive on time as parking is limited and we will begin promptly. The buses arrive at 16:00 so it is imperative that the area is clear of cars by that time.  Also we will appreciate your consideration if you park in the streets nearby, avoiding traffic jams and permitting the access of our neighbors to their houses.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards,

Dr. Adam Spina. Preschool and Elementary Principal
Ms. Elena Corchs. Preschool and Elementary Vice-Principal

Thank you to the to the ASV Preschool and Elementary Parents who graciously donated their time to decorate the school for the holidays in advance of the Winter Concerts.

Bus Evacuation Drill on November 30

As part of our annual security plan, we have prepared the third Bus Evacuation Drill on Monday, November 30, 2015, from 9:30 to 10:30 h. Autocares Romero, Autocares Puerto and the group of bus monitors will be supporting this activity. Students assigned to routes 4 and 13 must meet at the school dining hall at 9:30 to attend a short introductory talk. At 10:00 they will go back to the parking lot to perform the evacuation drill, simulating several conditions. We hope the activity will be useful to all our bus users (students, staff and bus monitors), offering guidelines to apply in case of being necessary.

Celebrating Thanksgiving in Preschool

Preschool groups enjoyed special activities to celebrate Thanksgiving, a major festivity in American. On Wednesday Nursery and Prek 1 enjoyed a storytelling. On Thursday afternoon, children were divided in several groups (pilgrims, native Americans...) and played some fun games in the park. The Elementary student council offered a nice support to our Preschool staff. Find some pictures of these activities on the school website.

There were other special activities this week: Kinder classes visited Casa África on Wednesday while PK2 went to Masía del Cosí.

End of First Trimester on December 1

The first trimester for the Preschool and Elementary division ends on December 1st. Teachers will have report cards completed by the end of the school day on December 4th. Report cards will be sent home in report card folders on December 9. ASV Soccer Tournament with Cambridge House, Friday November 20

Our High School Soccer Teams competed against Cambridge House on Friday November 20. They represented us well. On Friday, December 4 there is a new day of the Valencia International Schools Soccer Tournament.

ASV+ Matches Outfit

There has been some confusion around when can the students wear the matches outfit. This outfit can only be used for the matches the student-athletes have with their team, ASV+ Days or any ASV+ activities, it cannot be used as PE uniform. The school has its PE uniform and the ASV+ training t-shirts, ASV+ track suit and polar jacket can be used but not the matches outfit. For this reason this outfit cannot be sold to a student who is not enrolled in a ASV+ team sport, but all the other items can be purchased by any ASV student.

ASV+ tracksuits are being distributed, if you have any concerns  with the sizes delivered, please send an email to Ms. Escarlata Casas at: asvplus@asvalencia.org.

ASV+ Hockey

This weekend we have Hockey matches for ALL our players:

ASV+ High School Basketball

The boy’s team played on Wednesday, november 25, 2015 against Puçol Basketball club at ASV. They played very well and are looking forward to play their next match. The girl’s team will play on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 against Morvedre Basketball Club. Come and cheer for our girls!!!!

ASV+ Soccer 7th - 9th Grade

Both girl’s and boy’s teams will be involved in the Valencia International Schools Soccer Tournament which will be held at Futbolcity next Friday, December 4, 2015. Thanks to our Athletic Director, Mr Andy Ojelade.

Kapita School Director Coming!

Gilbert Mwale the director at the Kapita School in Zambia Africa will be at ASV next Thursday and the following week to visit with the students. We are very honored and excited to have him at our school and he will be visiting the Elementary and High School classrooms and talking to students. It will be a great experience for the students to meet someone from the school that we have been helping these last two years. Welcome Mr. Gilbert Mwale!
