ASV VOICES #73 / FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 2016

A Message from the Director

Recently, there was a report in the news about a person and blogger who was visiting schools across Spain and who is alleged to have committed child abuse.

Firstly, I would like to inform all of our families at ASV, in a factual and emphatic manner, that this person did not nor has ever had any relationship or contact with our school or students.  As the Director, I made the decision that the school would not have any contact with this person, unlike some other schools. This is an incontrovertible fact.

Secondly, all ASV staff and supporting staff, such as teachers, assistants, administrators, bus monitors, dining hall staff, lunch monitors, etc. undergo extensive background checks as required by Spanish law for any acts of a sexual nature.  Again, this is an incontrovertible fact.

In closing, I respectfully ask you, as parents, to cease with any communications or rumors about issues where you are not completely knowledgeable or have all of the facts.  It is extremely challenging to address communications and rumors that have no basis in fact, and it is counterproductive to building a positive school community. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

2016-17 Student Placement Process

As previously communicated in the parent delegate meeting notes, the student placement process for next year will prioritize the creation of balanced classrooms. Balanced classrooms will be established through the analysis of academic and behavioral data.
In order to ensure a fair and transparent data based process, requests for friends or specific teachers will not be considered. We trust that you will be very happy with your child’s placement next year as a result of this carefully implemented, detail oriented process.
Learn more on the criteria, by reading this table.

Three classes will have the end of year trips next week: Grade 1 (Mas de Noguera), Grade 4 (Tarragona), and Grade 5 (Teruel).

Students not going to the trips will have a special program including art activities, swimming pool, reading, and music, always supervised by an Elementary teacher or a Teacher Assistant. Please, do not forget to include swim suit and sunscreen.
