ASV VOICES # 49 / FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2015

Welcome Mr. Gilbert Mwale!

Mr. Gilbert Mwale, director of Kapita School, came from Zambia to us. Until Friday, December 11 he will be doing presentations in our classrooms, offering an overview of daily life in his school community. The Elementary student council will keep on selling ASV blue bags in favor of Kapita School during the next week.

Photo: Mr. Mwale with some ASV community members: Dr. Kristy Beam (High School Principal), Ms. Julianne Stall (ASV teacher who visited Kapita in 2014), Ms. Ree Gillet (representing Livingstone Foundation, also involved in Kapita), Dr. Adam Spina (Preschool and Elementary Principal), and Mr. Javier Sánchez (representing the ASV Board of Governors)

Reminders for ASV Winter Concerts.

You may have read our guidelines for the ongoing ASV Winter Concerts to enjoy as much as possible these community events.  On Tuesday, December 1 we had the performance of 3th and 4th grade and on Friday, December 12 it is time for the students in 5th and 6th grade.

Regarding the Preschool concert scheduled for December 16, remember that siblings in Elementary school are invited to attend the previous dress rehearsal. Please, do not bring them to the concert as we do not have enough seating capacity in our theater.  Preschool students with siblings in Elementary may attend the concert as this dress rehearsal is held during their lunch time.

Parents taking their children after the concert must fill in the form we opened last week (issues with Google permissions have been fixed).

Festive Baskets for Pasalo Puzol

This is the third year we have held this special campaign in partnership with Pásalo Puzol to provide a festive basket for local families with very few resources.

As with previous years each class will be given a family to make a basket for (we are still waiting for this information). Each class will receive a letter from one of the families about themselves and their situation.

Elementary and Preschool are creating food baskets for the families and High School will do a special gift box of toiletries. Whilst we realize that you like to give we would like to encourage you to donate items of quality and over quantity. The idea is to give a gift as we are not donating to a family’s everyday supplies. The deadline for completion is Tuesday, December 15, 2015. We will deliver them on Thursday, December 17.

Construction Works Around ASV

Due to the upcoming construction works from Paseo de la Costera to Monte Picayo street, in Monasterios, movements along this way from December 9 to 18 must be done with caution. These works will not block this street but will narrow the width for motor vehicles so we recommend to our community an alternate itinerary through the main avenue, the upper roundabout, and Avenida Sierra Calderona. Check the interactive map.

Report Cards on December 9

The first trimester for the Preschool and Elementary division ended this week. Report cards will be sent home in report card folders on December 9. Please ensure to review it, sign the folder in the appropriate location, and return the folder to the school. If you have any question or concerns, do not hesitate to bring them to the parent conferences.

Winter Market in Elementary School

Ms. Asunción Barrachina organized a winter market (rastrillo) with items donated by students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade. It was placed in Room 30 from November 9 to 22 and the funds raised were donated this week to the ASV Foundation program supporting Kapita School.

First Trimester Assembly

Congratulations to our exemplary students and our very talented musicians. Find the album of the event on Facebook.

Outstanding Performance of the ASV Soccer Teams

A group of 55 students from 6th to 12th grade participated in a new VIS Cup Soccer Tournament. Six schools (over 300 players) competed in five different categories and today the ASV squads had an outstanding performance, Mr. Andy Ojelade reported. These teams won their tournaments:

Grade 9-12 Girls Champions ASV
Grade 11/12 Boys Champions ASV

A Global View of Studies Abroad. ASV University Fair

We hosted a new edition of the ASV University Fair. Students in grades 9 to 12 could meet representatives from 22 international universities to receive individual information about undergraduate studies. The event offered information about careers such as Architecture, Arts, Fashion and Design, Drama and Filmmaking, Engineering, Finance, International Relations and Politics, IT and Computer Science, Languages and Cultures, Law, Media and Communication, Medicine, Music, Pharmacy and Dentistry, Sports and Physiotherapy, Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts. Although ASV students have diverse interests, a significant number of them asked for information on Business, Engineering, Law and Medicine. Students from six other schools in Valencia and Castellón visited the fair.

Reading Study with HS Students

We have a visitor, Carmen Candel, a PhD student from the University, conducting a reading study with some of our students in grades 9-12. The study will take place during study hall time. It is an exciting opportunity for our students to see the type of learning at the university level as well as get some feedback on our reading habits.

Foxborough Community School Parent Meeting will be held at 18:00 on Thursday, December 10, 2015 in the theater. Students should attend, if possible to help with translation.
