Name Change Reflects History

CFA Society of Atlanta is now Atlanta Society of Finance and Investment Professionals, ASFIP

By George Chen, CFA
2014-2015 President

The Atlanta Society of Finance and Investment Professionals (formerly the CFA Society of Atlanta) promotes the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence.

A member society of the CFA Institute, the Atlanta society was founded in 1960 as a volunteer organization. It currently has more than 1,300 members, which it serves through professional development, education, and networking events. Other membership benefits include access to local job postings and the latest news and updates from the CFA Institute and other associations.

Our society undertook a name change this year to return to the origins of our heritage. By recognizing the investment and finance community in Atlanta (and Georgia) consists not only of CFA charter holders but professionals with other designations and certifications, we are opening our doors to a wide variety of investment and financial services professionals from sole proprietorships all the way up to Fortune 500 companies. By expanding membership to the entire financial and investment community in the area through new associate classes (Program Participant and Student), we can expand the breadth and depth of services that we offer to our membership.

We invite you to visit our website at and consider becoming a member. You may also follow us on Twitter or LinkedIn by searching Atlanta Society of Finance and Investment Professionals or ASFIP.

UPCOMING EVENT: The Risk Landscape - A Closer Look

Please join us Wednesday as we welcome Melissa Brown, Senior Director of Applied Research for Axioma. Looking through the lens of several Axioma risk models to assess

the current state of volatility, correlations, cross-sectional dispersion and other dimensions of global market risk, Brown will explore whether we are being set up for another risk event or if markets can stay calm for longer.

As Senior Director of Applied Research, Brown, a CFA, generates unique insights into risk trends by consolidating and analyzing the vast amount of data on market and portfolio risk maintained by Axioma. Brown’s perspectives help both clients and prospects to better understand and adapt to the constantly changing risk environment. As author of Axioma Insight: Quarterly Risk Review, Brown reports on the state of risk in publicly traded equity markets around the globe.

The Nov. 19 lunch meeting begins at noon and will be held at 103 West in Buckhead. Please contact ASFIP for more information or visit the web site to register. Registration is required.
