CEES Makes a Splash at the Earth Day Indiana Festival
IUPUI senior and Communications Studies major, Jacki Renforth, wrote a fantastic news piece on CEES at the Earth Day Indiana Festival for her final project in one of her courses.

Jackie interviewed CEES staff and interns to compile her article, and she was gracious enough to let us share it. Read Jacki's article here.
April Showers Bring Samples
for Edge of Field
Danielle Follette, CEES Staff, and Jacob Burch, CEES Undergraduate Intern, have become quite familiar with the agricultural landscape over the past few months as the April showers are providing valuable water samples for CEES' Edge of Field research project. This NRCS-funded project is one set of projects across the midwest that is examining the effectiveness of agricultural conservation practices.

After each rainfall, Danielle and Jacob head to Starkey Farms to retrieve water samples collected in field. These samples are brought back to CEES labs where they are filtered, processed, and forwarded to Dr. Pierre-Andre Jacinthe for further analysis. Water will be examined for amounts of nitrogen, phosphorous and other contaminants. Read more about the sample collection process and our Edge of Field project.
Environmental Undergraduate Internship:
Combining Theory with Practice
IUPUI undergraduate and Environmental Science major, Michael McCormick, has been interning with Don Miller and others at the Department of Public Works Land Stewardship Program. Michael has been focusing on restoring a pond built in the 1930s to prevent erosion and restore native vegetation.  Read more about Michael's internship here.

Satellite Data Provides Useful Information
on Stream Movement in Indiana
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) Digital Elevation Models are providing useful insight into the historical and projected movement of streams in central Indiana. This information is being utilized to develop Indiana's Fluvial Hazard Mitigation program. Read more.
