CEES Assistant Director, Jessica Davis,
Named Director of the IUPUI Office of Sustainability
Jessica Davis has been hired as the new Director of the IUPUI Office of Sustainability!  Jessica has spent the last academic year with CEES and as of May has moved into her new role - see our farewell and Congratulations, Jessica
 
Introducing Interim Assistant Director and Project STEM Student
We are pleased to welcome Amber Rollings, PhD graduate student, who will be fulfilling the role of Interim Assistant Director of CEES.  We also welcome Meera Patel, a Project STEM intern.  They will both be assisting in CEES' endeavors until the Fall semester.  Read more and get contact info on Amber and Meera (via her guest blog).

Here at CEES, we are lucky to have great IUPUI undergraduate and graduate students that assist us in carrying out our mission.  This past Spring Semester, we had 19 driven students!  Thanks to each one of them for their efforts! IUPUI Researchers Examine Impact of Droughts on Yield, Water Quality, and Economics
CEES researchers (and IUPUI Department of Earth Sciences faculty) Dr. Lixin Wang and Dr. Pierre-Andre Jacinthe and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Stefani Daryanto published a new paper this month, “Global synthesis of drought effects on food legume production,” in the journal PLOS ONE.  Read more on this project and the researchers' next steps!
CEES Shares Service Learning Model at the
International Symposium on Service Learning
Jennifer Nelson (lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences), Sarah Goss (graduate student, service learning research assistant), and Jessica Davis (Director of Sustainability) delivered a presentation entitled, "CEES Service Learning: Connecting Students to Nature in an Urban Environment." This presentation highlighted the history, revisioning process, classroom application, and impact of CEES' Service Learning Program at IUPUI.  Read more.
Discovering the Science of the Environment Education Staff Partners with Paramount School of Excellence
DSE education staff enjoyed researching Pogue’s Run with the 5th grade students at Paramount School of Excellence in June.  The investigation enabled the students to better understand the interconnectedness of land use, water quality, and their personal relationship with the neighborhood stream.  Learn more about this exciting exploration!
ROW | Streamlines
Reconnecting to Our Waterways (ROW) is a city-wide and community based initiative to bring more attention to Indianapolis' waterways.  StreamLines is a NSF funded informal science learning project in partnership with ROW.  Both programs hope to strengthen communities' engagement to their surrounding waterways.  Learn more detail on ROW's and StreamLines' initiatives in this article by our High School Project STEM intern Meera Patel!

Weekly Farm Stand at the CUE Farm at Butler University
Since 2010, the Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) at Butler University, in partnership with Butler students, faculty and staff, have led the establishment of a campus farm. The CUE farm serves as an example of sustainable urban farming for Butler University and the Indianapolis community by teaching the interconnectedness of life, the importance of food security, and the methods of growing local, organic food. The CUE Farm sells produce to local restaurants, through a CSA program, and at a weekly farm stand.
Weekly farm stand hours:

Thursdays from 4-6pm, with extended hours of 2:30-6pm on 6/25, 7/2, and 7/16.

Location: South side of the Butler Athletic Fields
