The world is falling apart!

Here’s an example.

The American defense budget is $700 billion a year.

That’s $2 billion a day.

$80 million AN HOUR.

Yet millions of Americans go without food every day.

This is nuts.

Is there not enough money in this country to keep our pantries stocked?

How did this happen? How did we become a culture obsessed with taking pictures of our food while the family down the street has nothing to eat?

Why is it every time a cool new tech item is released millions fly off the shelves but the shelves of our food pantries remain empty?

Here's what we hope everyone reading this email will do in the next week: FEED SOMEBODY. Have one less drink at the bar. Brown bag your lunch to work one day. Don't order that movie on demand. Instead, find your nearest food pantry and bring a few cans of soup or a few boxes of rice or even call them and find out what they're lacking on their shelves!

I promise you. The feeling is unlike anything else.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Last Saturday, Art of Men and Restaurant Associates provided 250 turkeys to Union Settlement in Manhattan just in time for Thanksgiving. The meals were distributed to needy families that afternoon.

Many Art of Men members were on-hand to receive the turkeys and help prepare them for distribution. It was a wonderful day and reminded many of us what the holiday season is really about.
Union Settlement Association is an on-the-ground resource for East Harlem residents of all ages, and a passionate advocate for the needs of underserved communities. Since opening our doors in 1895, we have brought education, wellness and community-building programs to our neighborhood, empowering New Yorkers with opportunities to better their lives. By helping our neighbors realize their goals, we build the vitality and success of East Harlem.

“Many families in our programs simply cannot afford to purchase a traditional Thanksgiving meal for their families, and we therefore are so grateful for the donation of the 275 turkeys, as well as the many volunteers who came here on Saturday to help sort, bag and distribute the meals to East Harlem residents in need.  This is the second consecutive year that Art of Men has helped with our food drive, which is so important to Union Settlement’s mission and so welcomed by the participants in our programs.  We really can’t thank you enough.”

AoM provided turkeys. Union Settlement provided the fixins! And 250 families were able to have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.
Member Jen Haley takes a break from preparing turkeys for distribution to smile for the camera. This was her first AoM event.
"Every AoM event leaves me wanting to do more, give more and be more involved in the community around me." -Sarah Scully, member.
