All the latest from Sustainable Merton!

Hi <<First Name>>,

We enjoyed some great events in September - including Abundance Wimbledon's ever successful Fruit Day and Tamworth Farm Allotments annual BBQ. Plus we were joined by Merton's new 'Eco-Sexy' team at Phipps Bridge Community Garden for our latest Action Day!

The Merton Food Charter has now been published and it's also time to take your best shot for the Wandle Valley Forum's photo competition!

Abundance Fruit Day 2015!

(Photos: Nick Finch)
Congratulations to Abundance Wimbledon for another very successful Fruit Day! The delicious cakes, jams and other tasty treats on sale were a wonderful showcase of the many different ways to make use of local fruit that is often wasted.

David Chung (Mayor of Merton) opened the event and organisers Joyce and Juliet thanked all volunteers who keep the project going strong.
A grand total of £1,216 was raised - A fantastic contribution towards the team's great work!

The Merton Food Charter

The newly created Merton Food Charter is an innovative approach to taking action locally on food and sets out a vision for a healthy and sustainable food culture in Merton.

Sustainable Merton worked alongside Merton’s Public Health Team to coordinate the development of the charter, which is based on priorities identified by local partners at the Merton Food Summit in April 2015.

The Challenge: Team 'Eco-Sexy'!

The true skills of a team of young people are being tested as they take on sponsored challenges, organised by NCS The Challenge, to raise money for Sustainable Merton!
Team Eco-Sexy aim to create a movement to challenge people’s perceptions of environmentalism and have shown real enthusiasm to do so! They've made a fantastic start - raising around £285 so far!
Thank you to all involved!

Find out more about the campaign and how you can support the team's impressive efforts HERE.
We also joined forces with the team at Phipps Bridge Allotments for a community gardening day. The young volunteers did a great job with litter picking, digging, sowing and harvesting crops to prepare the garden for winter.  See more of the action HERE!

Tamworth Farm Allotments Garden Party!

On 6th September, the Tamworth Farm Allotment Society hosted it's annual family garden party!

Guests enjoyed a tasty BBQ and plot owners entered their best crops in the fruit and vegetable competition...

... Categories included most unusual crop, tallest sunflower and best cooked dish, and Michelle (Dig Merton) was invited to help judge the tough competition. She tells us more about her day and the 'wealth of produce to feast your eyes and bellies on' HERE

To our friends within the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community...

We were very sad to hear about the news of the fire at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden and we will be thinking of our friends who continue to support the work we do. We wish you all a strong recovery and please do not allow such things to deter you from the good and loving course you have all set yourselves upon.
Best Wishes from all of your friends at Sustainable Merton.
