Newsletter: January 2016

All the latest from Sustainable Merton!

Hi <<First Name>>

This month, we review both the Paris Climate Conference and Crossrail 2 Public Meeting, and discuss our role in supporting communities in their efforts to tackle global and local sustainability issues. We also take a look back at the Community Christmas Tree Exhibition and have details on how to recycle your trees too.

To kick off the New Year, we invite you to celebrate the start of our 10th year of operation at our AGM on 11th February! Plus we have news on an exciting Spring 2016 funding opportunity for local Wandle-based projects...

Crossrail 2 Public Meeting

Sustainable Merton were pleased to support last month's well attended Crossrail 2 meeting.

Our role on the night was to argue for all projects emanating from Crossrail 2 to be based on the principals of sustainable development, so that an example is set whereby all future developments in Merton match these requirements - Tom Walsh - CEO, Sustainable Merton
'In the coming year, we and other partner groups will fully support our citizens in tackling climate change through local action.'
** The Crossrail 2 consulation closes on Friday 8th January 2016 **

*** Christmas Tree Recycling ***

Paris Climate Conference: The Role of Grassroots Organisations

"Although the Paris Climate Conference was not a complete solution to the whole climate change threat, it did achieve amazing things. Almost every nation on earth now accepts and agrees that it is a real threat and that it is the responsibility of every nation and every citizen to be part of the solution.

This means that more than ever before, all over the world, grassroots organisations like ours have a key role to play in supporting our communities in their efforts to mitigate climate change."

Community Christmas Tree Exhibition

The Eco-Sexy team finally revealed their fantastic pledge tree at Morden Hall Park's annual Tree Exhibition last month.

The tree is a celebration of our work together throughout 2015 and represents our joint aim to change people's perceptions of environmentalism.

The local schools and community groups who took part made a great effort with their trees and we were very impressed by all of them!
Take a look at our exhibition gallery...
