Heating & Utilities Advice Day

On Saturday 18th October, Sustainable Merton took part in the Heating & Utilities Advice Day, organized by the MP for Mitcham and Morden, Siobhain McDonagh.

We spoke to many residents about how they can save energy through simple behaviour changes and how energy monitors can be a great tool to help with this.

Community Day at Phipps Bridge

On Wednesday 22nd October, we organised an open day at the Phipps Bridge Community Garden. The event was supported by the Metropolitan Police, MVSC, South Mitcham Community Association and Circle Housing Merton Priory, and was an opportunity to introduce residents to the benefits of community gardening and members of local organisations.

Dates For Your Diary

Join Sustainable Merton at local upcoming events...

Thursday 4th December
** Film Screening - TRASHED **
'If you think waste is someone else's problem... think again'

6.00pm (doors open) - 8.30pm, HMV Curzon, 23 The Broadway, Wimbledon, Greater London SW19 1RE. Free admission, donations welcome.

Sustainable Merton, in partnership with the London Borough of Merton, are hosting a local screening of this award winning feature film by Blenheim Films, with Jeremy Irons.

In this new ‘docu-feature’, produced and directed by British filmmaker Candida Brady, Jeremy Irons sets out to discover the extent and effects of the global waste problem, as he travels around the world to beautiful destinations tainted by pollution.

We learn more about what happens to the huge amount of waste that goes unaccounted for each year, as well as the individuals who have changed their lives and produce almost no waste.

Chris Lee, Director of Environment for the London Borough of Merton, will also be present to give a brief talk about environmental issues in the borough before we wrap up the evening.

Enquiries: julietboyd@doctors.org.uk

'We hope the film will demonstrate that by changing the way we live our lives, we can contribute to our own survival and well-being and ultimately that of the planet.' Jeremy Irons
