All the latest from Sustainable Merton!

Hi <<First Name>>,

Throughout August we enjoyed a number of planting sessions with local residents at  Phipps Bridge Herb Garden. As the summer season came to an end, we also revisited the sunflowers planted earlier this year as part of the Big Sunflower Project

This month, we'll be celebrating 'Wandle September' at Abundance Wimbledon's annual Fruit Day! And it's also time to nominate your Favourite Tree in Merton...

News & Info

Find out what we've been up to and keep up to date with sustainability issues in Merton...

** Abundance Fruit Day 2015! **
Saturday 19th September, 11am - 2pm

St Mark's Church (behind Wimbledon Library) SW19 7ND

The Abundance Wimbledon team have been busy this season... So far, they've picked 85 kilos of plums and 506 kilos of apples!

The local fruit is being used to make jams, chutneys, puddings and other delicious treats for visitors to buy at their annual Fruit Day. The event also relies on people who kindly donate some of their homemade produce, so if you are a keen jam-maker or baker, please contact
abundancewimbledon@gmail.com.
Ruth has been busy making jams, jellies and chutneys for Fruit Day using local produce grown at Phipps Bridge Community Garden.

The Big Sunflower Project

Brightening up the community garden
Back in March, we signed up to take part in the 'Big Sunflower Project', which aims to raise awareness for centronuclear and myotubular myopathy (neuromuscular diseases).

The seeds planted at Christchurch Community Garden have now bloomed, and not only look great but carry a special message too!

Phipps Bridge Herb Garden
Community Planting Sessions

Michelle (Project Leader, Dig Merton) was on hand at the community herb garden throughout August to share her gardening tips with local residents. Volunteers joined in to get their hands dirty and help with digging, planting and watering. She encouraged helpers to adopt and care for even just one plant to keep the garden growing. Thanks to all who came along to help!
08/08: 'Charlie and Angel were absolute stars! They did a superb job weeding, watering and reconditioning the soil. What a wonderful knowledge of the herbs they had too.'  - Michelle
