Afghan National Cricket Team Help Immunize Children against Polio
The fight against polio in Afghanistan is being led by more than just health workers. During a vaccination campaign in May, members of the Afghan national cricket team took a day off from training to go house-to-house to vaccinate children against polio. Since 2015 the team has made fighting polio the central plank of its community outreach. Their assistance is particularly valued since cricket is arguably Afghanistan's most popular sport, and the players are among the most respected figures in society, in provinces bordering Pakistan - areas where the polio threat is highest.

Agents of Polio Eradication:

Support from Rotary is extremely important to ending polio
Our support ensures that vaccine gets where it is needed, when it is needed and is viable when it arrives.
Our support helps fund environmental samples so helpful in finding where the virus may still be hiding.
Our support helps get children to the immunization points through social mobilization activities.
Our support helps continuing research for improved vaccines and delivery systems which is very important as we reach the final stages of the effort.
