#MySecularHoliday: A cheerful response to the fake "War on Christmas"

Spread some cheer, share your story!

"I - and my family - celebrate the cultural aspects of Christmas. It’s my favorite time of year! Decorating the tree, stringing up festive lights, and buying gifts for my loved ones evoke feelings of warmth, family, and togetherness as we wind down the year and settle into a long winter." - Zach, New York

How do you celebrate?

This holiday season, just like every holiday season, atheists, agnostics, humanists, and the nonreligious will celebrate the holidays with family and friends. Some of us take part in most or all of our family’s traditions; some will put clever secular twists on old ideas and still others make the holidays their own.

That’s why the Secular Coalition for America and our member organizations have partnered together to launch #MySecularHoliday, a seasonal project highlighting the wide variety of ways that nontheists celebrate the holidays.

All month long, we’ll be collecting and sharing stories about how secular people observe the holidays and what this time of year means to them. Our goal is to spread the word about the fun, festive, and creative ways that secular people come together to spend time with loved ones.

We believe that the holidays are an occasion for people to come together, not be divided along religious lines. Instead of falling for the religious right’s contrived “War on Christmas,” let’s use this opportunity to shine a light on our community and spread some holiday cheer.

Give the gift of visibility to the secular community by sharing your story: Tell us how you celebrate the holidays as a nontheist here or by using the hashtag #MySecularHoliday

Action you can take now: Join the Rapid Response Network!

With a new Congress right around the corner, we need you to meet with your lawmakers, whether they are opening their office doors for the first time, or re-opening for the 116th Congress, and let them know that the secular community is engaged, empowered, and we vote! Sign up for the Rapid Response Network here to take your activism to the next level.

Program Spotlight

Ex-Muslims of North America's Normalizing Dissent Tour shows that even Muslim communities can attest to the growing number of people leaving faith behind. The panel of three trailblazing Ex-Muslims share their thoughts on how far reason has come, how much further there is to go, and what it will take to escape from the shadow of religion.
