Welcome Back!

As we reopen for 2017, we're looking forward to welcoming members old and new back to the arboretum and to the coming season!

As last year, member access from 8-10am will be through the gate behind the building, and from 10am will be through the Visitor Centre.

The Arboretum Café

Over the winter we've taken the opportunity to refurbish the café. We've extended the serving area and will soon be getting new furniture.

Starting on Saturday 11th, the café will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 3pm. We'll be back to our regular café opening hours of 10am - 4pm every day from March 1st.

Emma and her team look forward to seeing you!.

Snowdrop Lunch

Our Director, John Grimshaw, is a leading authority on snowdrops and grows an extensive collection in his Settrington garden.

To launch the 2017 season of gardens open in aid of the arboretum’s planting fund he will host a traditional snowdrop lunch on Sunday 5th March from 11am.

You'll have the rare opportunity to view snowdrops and other early flowers and learn more about them from John, before enjoying a hearty, home-cooked, three course lunch with a glass of wine.

Places are £25 each and strictly limited so please book promptly by email or phone 01653 648598. Please indicate if you would prefer a vegetarian meal.

Due to difficulties with parking in winter it is unfortunately not possible to arrange a general open day to the garden in snowdrop season.

Stargazing Evening

The absence of light pollution makes the Yorkshire Arboretum a perfect spot for exploring the night sky and this month we're taking part in the National Parks' Dark Skies Festival.

On Saturday February 18th the experts from York Astronomical Society will be at the arboretum from 7-10pm. Visitors will be able to use the latest telescopes to view the wonders of the night sky, including star clusters, nebulae and galaxies, under their expert guidance. Refreshments will be available.

In the event of bad weather, we'll head into the Visitor Centre for an entertaining illustrated talk about what's up there above the clouds!

Adults £3.50, children £2 - booking essential please. For full details or to book online, please visit the website.
