From the Desk of the DA

School is back in session! The Yolo County District Attorney's Truancy Abatement Program is hard at work ensuring that all school-aged children attend classes and get the most out of their school days. Through various levels of mediation and intervention methods, our office helps encourage parents to get their children to school. Our proactive approach focuses on helping kids graduate and become successful adults. Evidence has established that kids who attend school and have a solid education are more likely to make better choices as young adults and stay out of the criminal justice system.

YCDA File Room Now Houses the Neighborhood Court Program

What used to fill the empty room in the photo above were thousands of files.  The once empty space has been turned into much needed office space for our new Yolo County Neighborhood Court Program employees.
The Yolo County District Attorney's Office became the first DA's office in California to go 'paperless' beginning in 2011. As we evolved in our paperless world with daily scanning of our paper files, there were still thousands of case files that remained. Recently, the paper case files were all moved out.  Most cases have been uploaded into our case management system. Others were purged under our purging policy or stored off site for future scanning. We are officially a DA's office without a file room!
The second photo shows that same office space with the existing office cubicles now occupied by our awesome Neighborhood Court Program team.

Yolo County MCCC

The Multi-Cultural Community Council (MCCC) was created by Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig along with former MCCC chairperson Dr. Jesse Ortiz, the Superintendant for the Yolo County Office of Education. The council is composed of a diverse group of individuals throughout the county of Yolo.  The group acts as an advisory committee to the DA. The mission of the MCCC is to seek fair and equal justice, facilitate understanding, ensure open communication, and promote community participation, education and diversity within the criminal justice system. Our MCCC recognizes the diversity of cultures in our community which include race, religion, sexual orientation, beliefs and creed.

Each year the MCCC holds a Justice Leadership Awards Ceremony.  The purpose of these awards is to recognize individuals or organizations who have promoted multi-cultural relationships, acceptance and peace within the communites in the county of Yolo; forged diverse coalitions to assure ongoing community dialogue related to cultural awareness, the criminal justice system and public safety; and ensured multi-cultural community participation in educational and informational programs related to accessing, understanding and providing input to the criminal justice system.  This year's event is scheduled for September 17th.
